    Hey everyone.

As you may or may not know, I recently acquired an ATI Mobility Radeon 4870 for the dual purposes of breathing life into my m15x (after the 8800m failed) and for testing to see whether the card would work in the laptop.

I won't go into too many details, as I should say now that the card does not work in the Area-51 m15x. I had a couple of moments where the system had display, but shut down as soon as I got to the Windows Log On screen.
Now I am getting no output at all, meaning that I cannot attempt any BIOS access or Safe Mode booting.

The system is running fine on the Intel GMA, so no problems have been invoked in the rest of the system. However it seems that the 4870, provided that my method was right, is not a valid upgrade option.

That said, I now have a spare, most likely functional Mobility Radeon 4870 for sale to anybody who may be interested in buying it, whether it's for a compatible system, or if they want to try this test themselves. Please contact me if you are interested.

Glad I tried the test anyhow, I had very little to lose, and I've done some science too.

It's a shame. I was hoping that it would work out. At least you didn't fry your computer while trying this out. I thought that it would work out since you got to the windows logo the first time trying it out.

True, however I am satisfied that I ran the tests at all. I already have somebody interested in taking the card off of my hands, and my m15x will be probably acting as a media/entertainment system for a home cinema we are throwing together.

    It's the Asus-manufactured 4870 with the mxm 2.1 connectors.

No, otherwise I'd have had to have flipped it over to install it.
