I have an Area 51 that I need assistance on. It currently has multiple viruses and need help i getting it fixed without having to wipe the system completely. Popups everywhere and wont allow me to do anything. Plus, I am in need of a internal cd rom as the current one does not work. Unless you can tell me how to check and see if I can get this one working again.

Its going to be next to impossible to get all the viruses and malware off. I would suggest scanning with MS Security Essentials, then Avast Free, and finally AVG Free. Install and run one at a time, once they are finished, if all the viruses aren't removed, then you'll have to do a clean install.

You can use Clamwin from a live CD (boot from CD instead of booting into windows) which prevents malware from hiding itself inside your Windows system or dropping re-installers that allow it to recover itself when you reboot Windows after a scan. Some of the more nasty viruses are very clever at reinstalling themselves after you clean your PC, and this will catch some that even a scan in Safe Mod can miss or fail to clean. This should be done along with tHE jOKER's suggestions, not in place of.

The best option is to look for manual removal instructions on every infection you can find on your system. Check your Task Manager for running processes. Do a search on every running process you don't know to see if it is part of the infection. If you have popups that are promoting a specific antivirus software or other, which you should know by now is fake, search the name of that software they are promoting for removal instructions. You can often find easy instructions to remove these threats from a Google/Bing search. I can't recommend any specific antivirus software. Most of them cannot clean these infections. And once your infected, good luck trying to get an antivirus software installed and updated. Most infections prohibit this. I have several users at my office who habitually get infections such as these and if you can't do a manual removal, your best option is to format and reload. Manual removal will take a lot of time and you have to be thorough in order to prevent it from coming back. Formatting and reloading if often easier and shorter than cleaning infections.

I appreciate the replies and suggestions. When I had posted the question, I had not turned on the machine probably in over a year. Well, to my surprise, no more pop ups, and I was able to go into any program. I commenced on getting it scanned right away and cleared up any viruses. It is now up and going. Anyone know if these viruses have like an expiring date or something of that sort?

The servers where those pop-ups were hosted are long gone. I'd run a Malwarebytes scan in safe mode in order to remove any left over remnants.
