Hello, this is my first post here! I have just bought a pre-owned alienware m9700i-R1 off of craigslist and installed Windows 7 64-bit on it and can not seem to find any drivers for it. It seems doing google searches either comes up with the m9700 aurora (which has an AMD chip, mine has an intel) or it comes up with the m9750. Would any of you happen to know where I could find 64-bit drivers? Also, another quick question, do any of you know the motherboard supports? (does it use a normal desktop cpu?) Thanks

You should be able to use Vista drivers for win 7, use the drivers for M9750 not Aurora that was AMD cpu based. It does not use desktop CPU's, it mainly uses T series mobile CPU, mine has the T7600.
Google CPU world for more info.

Thanks! Also, do you know the highest speed or RAM the motherboard can support? Does the m9700i-R1 use the same motherboard as the m9750? That way maybe I can just pull up the specs from that, thanks again! +rep

M9700i is whats on the bottom, in the bios and windows it will say 9750 its the same machine, I use PC 6400 800MHz in mine the highest it will go, and the T7600 2.33GHz is the biggest cpu it will take.

The M9700i-R1 uses DDR PC3200 memory up to 2GB's. The M9750 can take up to 4GB's of PC6400 as LookAlien said.

They definitely use different motherboards, as one uses AMD/DDR and the other uses Intel/DDR2.

Thats going to get confusing, M9700i R1 is an Intel based M9750 and uses DDR2 Pc6400
The older M9700 Aurora is AMD based and uses DDR PC3200.

Genji, Mine is M9750 but has M9700i R1 on the bottom sticker, was you compairing to the Aurora M9700?

Thanks again for all of the help LookAlien I really appreciate it :notworthy: One last question for you though LookAlien, do you happen to know the highest graphics card it can be expanded to? I was thinking of spending the money and doing an upgrade if it's worth it.

The best video card you can get for it is the 8700m GT like this:
    nVidia 8700M GT SLI DDR3 512MB MXM III VGA Video Card - eBay (item 250656967367 end time Sep-23-10 20:44:29 PDT) $259.99 + $12.99 shipping.

The 8700m GT supports DX10, while the Go 7950 DX9.

    Average 8700m GT SLI 3dmark06 score: 8211
Average Go 7950 GTX SLI 3dmark06 score: 6982
Average Go 7900 GS SLI 3dmark06 score: 5000

Oh yes, since you are a n00b I'll let you know: if someone posts some info thats not 100% correct, you don't have to be rude. This forum is about helping people and learning.

The joker is right, info is not always 100% he was only helping, he owns a mac and would be better at giving correct info for them than me, I only know about M9700i because Ive serviced a fair few now and owed 4-5 of them, he is right on the gfx card to a point, many people dont realise you can upgrade it with a ATi HD3870 like I did and it flys.
Mine had two 7950GTX's DX9, which was the faster than 2 8700m's but those are DX10 as joker said, I sold them and bought the ATi HD3870 and it was much faster than the 7950GTX's, I can play GTA 4 on it now.
If you really want it to be a power house get 2 Solid state drives and raid them, makes it real fast.
The ATi HD3870 is the fastest you can fit in it.

    My lappys
M17, QX9300, Dual ATI M88 XT HD3870 1GB Crossfire, 4GB DDR 3 ram, 2x 64GB Solid state drives in raid, AVERMEDIA TV TUNER. Blu-ray, Hi def screen.
    M9700i with ATi M88 XT HD3870, T7600 2.33GHz, 4GB ram, 2x 200GB Seagate HD in raid.

Yeah as above and you need a cross fire cable, that will be the problem, they are hard to get.

I have a problem, I ordered a m9700/9750 ac adapter from ztronics.com and the voltage is correct at 19v but on the bottom of my computer it says I need 19v and 9.5a but the adapter they sent me is 19v and 7.89a will this adapter work or will I need to send it back and try and find another one somewhere else? I just got it in the mail today and want to use it, but am just going to send it back tomorrow if it's the wrong one.

This was the link to the one I ordered http://ztronics.com/en/laptop-parts...c-adapter/flypage.tpl.html?keyword=ac+adapter

The m9700i IS the M9750, the label is wrong on the bottom that is all. Incidentally as I keep constantly repeating 64-bit on this system is pointless as the motherboard chipset can only do 32-bit addressing which means no matter what operating system you have you will end up with about 3gb of usable ram.

I would not be happy with that, it will not power your laptop properly, it must be 19v 9.5a, I would stick with a genuine one than one like this as it could be a cheapo one from Hong Kong.
