It started with one line, then another, and then 2 more. 1st blue line is about 1/4" from left edge, then 2½" to the right another blue. Then 5/8" to the right is a yellow line, then 2 5/8" to the right of that is another yellow. All very thin lines.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you :)

I'm not entirely familiar with the model you're describing, but it sounds to me like you're describing artifacting, which could be an issue with your gpu. Perhaps you could try to plug your laptop into an external display and see if the issues are replicated? If they aren't it could be an issue with your lcd, and if they are replicated then it may confirm there's an issue with your gpu.

This^. Do they appear in the same spots each time? In my past experience artifacts usually appear in different spots with each boot at least. If they are always in the same spot I would suggest the LCD first but trying an external monitor is a good way to test.

Artefacts in one spot as lines appear usually when GPU can't access memory range reserved for video display. In short, GPU RAM is faulty, probably cold soldering. You can try oven trick or change GPU. Random artefacts are usually related to overheating.

What if he changed his resolution? Would they still appear in the same spots with faulty memory on the card? Also same goes for what if he started up a 3D game?

I connected laptop to an external monitor and there are no lines on the external monitor! That's a good thing, I think. This must mean it's my lcd. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

    Thanks!

Yes, they appeared in the same spots all the time, even after reboot. I connected to external monitor and no lines. What do I do to fix the LCD? Thanks!

After parting out a ton of M9700 and M9750 laptops I have found lines on the screen are a LCD problem most of the time, swap the screen and you should be good to go.

Do you have suggestions on where to get a new screen? Are we talking about the whole top of the laptop, or just the screen section? Thanks!

You can buy the screen from quite a few places, eBay would probably be the best as there is always a bunch on there. The assembly does come apart so the screen can be swapped. The assembly is a pain to take apart especially if you have never done it before but overall if you take your time it is not too bad. Out of the 50 or so M9700/M9750's I have pieced out I have only taken apart two or three of the assemblies as it is just so annoying to me :D Just make sure you get one that has the 1920x1080 res of course.

I don't suppose there is anything I can do to the screen to fix it, rather than purchasing a new one?

Not unless you know magic :D

It is a hardware issue which just needs a part swapped, can't bake it or anything like that haha. Almost all parts for the M9700 are cheap now, you should be able to find another screen for in the $50 range I think.

I was recently given an M9700 for free. The screen sometimes displays visual artifacts and sometimes it doesn't. I've seen your items on ebay and I'm considering buying one of your GPUs but 125 is a little steep for me right now. Is there a way I can bake it? I've had to do it in the past when I had one of the 2008 model MacBook pros. Also if I can directions on how to do it would help :)

Yeah artifacts on these normally mean video card failures. You could try baking them but it is just buying time in the end. I usually charge a lot less outside of ebay, I have a post in the marketplace, I have a ton of cards so I am always willing to make a deal. What cards do you have now? I assume 7900 go?
