Well I'm going to make a lot of cooling mods to my M17 R1 so I decided to create a thread to record all of them.

    1st Mod
Tonight I start working with the bottom case. I bought at frozen cpu this two things:

    120mm Honeycomb Fan Mesh Grill - Black - FrozenCPU.com
    ModRight ModMesh 500mm x 500mm x 1.0mm Diamond Style Aluminum Mesh Panel - Black - FrozenCPU.com

The honeycomb one will be used as fan filters and the other one will be the new bottom case.

    More to come :)

All of this temps is an average after each run. I make every run as close to each other as I could, note that I eliminate the two reading for the cpu and make an average between them. (Easier to write it here)

I have also modified the bottom cover of my M17, and have 3 12 volt 120mm fans blowing at the bottom of the laptop. I did see a pretty good decrease in GPU temperatures, but the CPU temperature never gets much better.

There is a TON of room for improvement on the CPU/GPU heatsinks, which is where I believe the cooling issue really lies. I'm waiting to see some numbers from THIS thread.

And we should also keep in mind that the M17's idle and load temps really aren't that bad for what they are.

Well this is a first step for the cooling mods that mine will have. I see a lot of improvement with this feature. Right now my CPU temps are 45-48 I have never seend a 49< in those temps before. :)

Well I just bought and installed a QX9300, wow this thing is amazing!! I will make the same tests with this CPU around this week. Then I will update the list.

    Congrats! That's a nice chip.

Have a look at ThrottleStop if you haven't already.
You'll be able to push that CPU a little further with the proper cooling.
