Can anyone tell me if I can upgrade my Alienware M17 (pre-Dell) to support 8GB memory (currently has 4GB)? Dell support tell me it's impossible

    Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 2.0GHz
    BIOS Intel W841.B13 (20/02/2009)
    512MB ATI Mobiltiy Radeon

I wouldn't depend on anyone giving you this information and trusting it 100%.

Simply buy (100% no fee, returnable) RAM modules and try it for yourself.

If it works, great - if it doesn't - just return.

Many 'official' specs will state that a chipset/model/BIOS version will/will not support more than 4GB RAM - when there are many examples that do support and work with more RAM than the 'official' documentation. This is simply because at the time the 'specs' were drawn up, higher capacity modules were too far out into the future and there is nobody to update these documents (if you could even find them) on a case by case basis.

Give this a try for yourself - there is nothing to lose but a few minutes of your time. ;)
