Alienware M15x smoking

Wow so i just got my alienware back from their repair center because my hinges broke (faulty hinges) and now i have two new problems, one BIG problem and one small problem. First ill start with the small problem. My touch controls on the alienware have stopped lighting up... I have to put pressure on the "U,I,P,J,K,L,;,7,8,9,0,-" keys to make them light up. If anyone can help me with that it would be greatly appreciated.

Next the big problem. I was listening to music on my computer when out of no where i saw smoke coming from the top of the computer. I felt the back of my computer to feel if there was a hot spot and on the right side it was EXTREMELY hot. So i promptly shutoff my computer and took out the battery.

... I have no idea what is happening and i reallly dont want to send it back to alienware because they make you pay for the shipping and they keep the computer for 2-4 weeks

If anyone knows whats happening please help me.

the other issue sounds like a loose connection.

man can't believe you got a faulty hinge, that thing is built super tough this time around.

 

Your GPU probably fried. Not 100% certain though.

Call Dell customer service and have them fix it.

 

hmm i forgot to specify its coming from my monitor on the laptop. From the right side looking at the screen.

 

Issues like that you dont even want to ask anyone around here and just get on the phone and call....

Smoke pouring out the machine is not some new feature Alienware added...

They really should replace all those legacy systems with new machines that are under warranty and especially the m15x since it had SO many issues....

jokes aside, I would really ask for compensation if you are still under warranty. Or free shipping, at least...

 

haha the smoking also comes with a nice plastic burning smell

so what happened is that because I reported this within 15 days of when the computer was returned to me they are fixing my computer with no cost towards me. I think i should receive a brand new m17x, but ill settle with what they gave me

also i dont want to send my hard drive in but should i for testing purposes?

 

Moving thread to Alienware Legacy subforum as this is a legacy system...

For your hard drive, you shouldn't have to send it for testing however check with the rep you are dealing with. Most would reformat if sending in the HDD, I suggest doing the same to remove any sensitive docs.
