These drivers are for Alienware Area 51 M15X (R1) Pre-dell machine

    Running on Windows 7 x64 & Vista x64

Note: The ATI driver within the attachment has a more up to date Driver on Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD Version 13.1, if you have this version there is no need to install.

Note 2#: The instructions on order load within the attachment.

I made this forum for those who need these drivers as when i needed them it took me weeks to find.

I hope this becomes useful for everyone.

P.S for drivers needed for anything else such as CPU, graphics cards and anything else you may find them on there manufacturers website.

Issues with seeing the Based systems within device manager these drivers contain the needed drivers, as this was my issue after i did a fresh reinstall of windows 7.

For those wondering why all these drivers named Vista x64 do not worry, windows 7 is very much based Vista so these drivers WILL work with windows 7 x64 as my OS is windows 7 x64.

Note#3: none of these drivers will work on x32, if you wish me to find x32 drivers please do not be afraid to ask, i will try my best to assist you.

Note#4: I am not a computer expert, enough researching online can help go along way.

    =)

Sorry it took you weeks to find, it's too bad you didn't come here first. I uploaded the same thing about a year ago at https://dl.dropbox.com/u/11672987/Forum/M15x drivers/Alienware M15X Win7 Working Drivers.zip

Good to have two mirrors though in case there is ever a problem with one package.

    haha true that pal.

good to know we both using dropbox :p instead of some stupid site that has tonnes of adverts and surveys and what not.

only thing i have a problem with on my laptop is alien fusion on command center. i try open it and it crashes, also my T9300 cpu is locked onto x4 multiplier, so im having to use Throttlestop to get what i should be, plus even more such as OC to 2.7Ghz. any help?

Is alien fusion what you use to change the lights? If so my package has a working version.

Also try my chipset / system drivers, I don't think I have problems with a locked multiplier.

I may be wrong but I think these laptops only shipped with a 64-bit OS.

They also shipped with 32bit Vista.

Can you post the hardware ID's of the missing devices?
You can do this in Device Manager, right click the device > Properties > Details tab > choose Hardware IDs in the dropdown list.

Also you can install the 64bit version of the OS and use the same licence.

Those pics still do not show the device ID's, that's really what we need. You can find them in the details tab.

You could also download and use a small, free, spyware free program called "unknown devices". It has not been updated since 07 but since your laptop hardware is from 08 it will probably work fine.
    Link: Halfdone: Unknown Devices

Lastly, you installed Win Vista 64 & 32 on two separate machines using the same key from the bottom of your alienware? If so I feel like you would have issues down the road when activating during a re-install of the OS. I may be wrong but I thought the license agreement was 64 OR 32 with the same key on ONE machine... again don't quote me though.

it doesnt say anything on the ids when i select details it just says "base system device" thats it, and no i had to put a fresh install of windows vista x32 on as the windows 7 that was on when i got it was all over the place an it didnt function correctly, but as you said the key on the bottom of the machine i thought "duhhhh" because i installed a copy of windows vista x32 that i had installed on another laptop (not this one) but the m15x windows code is for windows ultimate so again i may need to do a fresh install as when i type the key in to activate windows it says "key is not valid for this version of windows vista or must either run windows vista set up or enter a windows vista home premium product key" and by the looks of the "windows anytime upgrader" i can only upgrade to windows 7 so do you think that its worth doing as this time around i may be able to sort it myself rather than what the person did before i had the m15x :) hope that made sense lol

I had win 7 64 working with almost no issues on a m15x. Only thing I could never sort out was sleep mode, but hibernate works so no biggie. I have uploaded a dropbox package and posted the link multiple times on this forum with every driver you need for 7 64.

If you read through these forums the original m15x can only use an older nvidia driver if you have an nvidia graphics card. I think its ver 187.xxx but don't quote me on that. The exact driver version is on this forum if you search or read through the stickies. Any newer versions will lead to a BSOD. If you want newer drivers your only choice is to move to ATI/AMD. The 3870 is all over ebay and has been shown to work with your unit. There are 4850 / 4870 cards out there also but they are harder to find and no one has confirmed compatibility.

    Hi ya,

just installed the drivers after an install of 7 64, and apart from a missing drive all was going well...

...until I installed the latest command center. It asked to do a firmware update, and since then my keyboard fails to light up.

It asked a question on what model I had when I did the upgrade, and I assumed I had got it right, but obviously I didn't.

Any idea how I can downgrade the firmware and then upgrade it again. I ideally I need an earlier version of the software, but trying to find it it rather hard.

Oh, and TOP, TOP job on getting those ZIP files online with all of the drivers. Many thanks.

    cheers

You keyboard lights fails after the firmware update or the command center? Did you try uninstalling command center?

I can not thank you enough for posting this!!! It saved my butt in a sense!! I bought the area 51 laptop on ebay yesterday (yes in less than 6 hours I managed to create quiet the mess!!) anyway, I updated the control center and all heck broke loose. your article got me back up and running, my question is, I did manage to get the area 51 with the backlit keyboard, the program I got from you does not support that feature, is there something else I need to install or do I need a newer version of the fx program? Thanks a million!!
