Ok so I recently applied some AS5 on both my CPU and GPU and my temps for the GPU on idle is 54C and under load it goes up to 85 max I've seen is 87C. Is this something to worry about or is this normal? These temps were after I played Crysis for about 30mins.

Well the back cover has been cut for cooling and there is a cooler on the bottom blowing air in but I'll wait a bit for the AS5 to settle in, how long does that usually take before I can get accurate readings and know for sure if I need to reapply and reset the heat sinks.

my gpu temps are slowly rising maxd out at 90C earlier. I most likely will reapply the thermal paste hopefully that will fix the issue. If not i dont know what else i can do :(

My ATI 4850 idles at around 45C to 47C Load about 60C to 64C

    When playing any Game * Crysis,Dragon Age,Mass Effect 2 *

Bottom cover is Off with Zalman NC 2000 cooler

Im using Noctuas NT-H1 Made in Austria

I personal think that if you are over 85C might want to try some other thermal paste

My GPUs used to idle just under 60C, usually max out at about 80C (depends on the game I'm playing). I HAVE hit 90C before but only very rarely and never gone above it. That's with NO cooling mods, stock paste, cover on.

With the dust covers removed (but cover still on), idle temperatures are 50-55C, max temps just below 80C in most games (although the very intense ones such as Crysis can still push it above 80C).

If the 3870 isn't going above 90C regularly then you shouldn't worry much about it. The 4850 naturally runs hotter but you still want to try and keep that below 90C if you can-it will extend the card's life. With the 4850, I'd say it's safe up to about 95C.

Might also factor in " Room Temps" as it always effects the temps of your notebook also

Hot Room....... Blowing in Hot Air

I stay in a small room that is always around 15C- 70F

if that's with the back cover on and the thing that cover the air input it's standar and the ati can take a such pounding for 2 year no trouble how ever keeping them a little cooler would be better

if that is with the back cover off and a cooler then yes it's time to worrier BIG TIME

my 49 deg have been recorded while embian temp was 32 here and my dual 4850 got up to 80 deg playing crysis

how ever with the back cover and the stock stuff they used to iddle around 65 deg and crysis got them to 99 once

All cards will function fine up to 100, however the life expectancy will increase the cooler you can keep them. This is preferably below 90C if not lower.

Max temps I ever got was 80C on my m15x r1. Try reapplying some new thermal grease. I used ZeroTherm thermal paste.

Have you removed the fabric cloth pieces that are on top of the vents? They're meant to keep the dust out, but after a while they just get clogged with it and do more harm than good. Just tear them off, it should give your temps a small boost. (Mine literally disintegrated into dust as I pulled them off, they were that badly clogged)

You might also want to try raising the back of the laptop. Maybe be cheap like me, and prop the back up on a pair of AA batteries :p Better yet, buy a cooler for it like the Cryo LX or the Antec 200.

I simply blew into the heatsinks. By mouth. A lot of dust came out.

Ive just ordered a couple of cans of compressed air from Amazon just to give the internals a good blast of air.
I found my 3870s would run hot sometimes and to fix it i would reseat the processor and re-apply paste.....its a very sensitive area, sometimes it would work and other times it would not.
When it was running good my 3870s never got above 75c with the back cover on. My 4850c run at 79-80c max exactly every night whilst gaming.....this is with the back cover removed.
I would suggest to everybody with an M17 to either run their machines with back cover removed on a cooler or a modded back cover similar to DHC and cleverspuedonym. It makes a world of difference, the laptop then feels the way it should have done running smooth and cool.
