i have 7970 xfire. wich i feel are still doing the job.
but maybe im thinkin a new cpu?
the top cpu would be the i7-3920xm? the last generation i take it?
i see it on ebay for roughly 350. and ppl are overclocking at stable cold speeds.
    worth it do you think?

mostly for gaming. im only a bencher on my PC. i use this beast for when i work outta town and such.

    thanks :D

Either the 3920xm or the 3940xm will do the trick. If you're looking to save a little coin I'd go with the 3920xm since there is no difference when they are both overclocked. The 3940xm has a 100mhz higher base clock speed at stock and that's it.

I used to have the same processor, the max it would go was 3.1 or 3.2. I upgraded to the 3920xm about 1 year ago and never looked back. I run 4.4 24/7, it goes has high as 4.6 but I would overvolt to high levels with high heat that I'm not comfortable with.

If your will to give them a shot, pickup a 3940XM(QS or ES) chip off ebay. You can save a few $$$ while hitting the 4.4-4.6GHZ speeds.

I once was of the same view but now I'd personally advise agaisnt any QS unless you're not going to push it much. I had a 3920xm QS that degraded faster than a moldy piece of bread. OEM is so cheap now, might as well just get it.

OEM... Don't get QS.. They're too much of a mixed bag...
