every so oftern my AVast will pop up saying my computer is infected ect. here is a photo what it is. I tried just restoring my entire computer with a backup i have on my external 4gig Western Digital drive.

I heard the MAL virus or whatever it is is really hard to get out. I ran avast internet explorer, Malwarebytes anti-malware, malwarebytes anti exploit premium.

None of them work. my last hope is im gonna run the windows 7 program to try and kill the malware.

Try downloading and installing Hitman Pro. It's a paid program, but gives you a 30 day trial for free. It's cloud based anti-malware, but I've found it digs up problems that the other major anti-malware programs miss. I don't want to promise it will fix things for you, but it surely can't hurt.

If Hitman Pro doesn't fix it, diskpart clean the drive and reinstall Windows. Malware that digs in hard and resists removal isn't worth burning a ton of calories on trying to fix.

Or, if you created a drive image from your last fresh install, just restore that image. If you did not, this time create one after your fresh OS installation (after installing drivers and apps, updates, etc.) and your future "reinstall" process will be a hassle-free 10 minute operation. Use Macrium Reflect instead of Respawn... much better, more flexible, and faster.

Here's an easy fix for you:

    1) Download AdwCleaner 4.111
    2) Download Combofix
    3) Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (when you install it, do not choose to activate the trial pro mode, just decline and stay in the free mode)
    4) Now run them each by right clicking and choosing Run As Admin and let them do the cleaning and reboot after each one when prompted
    5) After you run them all, uninstall that piece of crap called Avast! and install a real antivirus

Paid recommendations: Emsisoft Anti-Malware (lightest and very good virus and PUP detection which other AVs don't catch
    Free Recommendation: Bitdefender Free AV

Then run another full scan with your new AV

Don't forget when uninstalling avast to use their uninstall tool to properly get rid of all remnants of that crappy AV

PS: take a look at how Avast handles threats in the latest AV Comparatives results: http://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart1.php

You have to know that Avast protection isn't good. It's just moderate. Products like Kaspersky or ESET makes your computer very very secure and I recommend changing your AV to better one after dealing with the virus. Follow Ferris23 advice because these programs are best to clean crap from your computer.

True that, but Eset became so heavy after they updated to v8 and Kaspersky is good, but not that light as well.

I personally use Emsisoft Anti-Malware which in my experience as been the best, not only light, it also detects PUPs (potentially unwanted programs) that get installed as crapware with other programs you are trying to install which other AVs don't catch out of the box since PUPs are not really viruses but are a big pain in the butt because they cause all kinds of weird behavior on your computer like tracking, popups, etc.
ESET's NOD32 does detect PUPs out of the box but again, very heavy and its HTTP scanner causes stuttering while trying to stream online videos

Kaspersky has the option to detect PUPs but it is not enabled by default due to legal issues but it is an option, other AVs simply don't detect them

Yeah, personally I use Kaspersky since 2008 and im satisfied. Paying about 10$ for 1 year license (russian prices) is not much. I've reported a new russian type of virus found on warez sites and got 1 year subscription free :)

It isn't light but I can sacrifice some performance to be 99% sure that im protected from all these crap on internet. Alienware computers are so powerful that I never had an FPS increase after turning off AV.

True that, nowadays almost any AV is light not because it's light, it's because today's computers are so powerful you wouldn't notice a hit. So when I say I notice a huge performance hit when using the once lightest AV NOD32 now.....it means it is REALLY that heavy

Kaspersky AV is light after you install, run a full scan, then leave your system idle for 30 mins for it to perform a background rootkit scan, then it becomes really light

I use macrium reflect professional edition to backup. Only thing that sucks is I seem to have to do it drive by drive to restore everything instead of me clicking on one thing and saying restore. i have to first restore my raid 0 drives then my data drives. problem is the virus is in the back up image somewhere!!!!! I have malware antimalware premium , avast , ect..even tried windows defender. only avast finds it. but avast can't fix it. the only thing i noitce it does , is for example i clicked on reply just now to speak with you, and it took my to some ******** website...its driving me nuts. lol im gonna try and download ferris's list and see if that can take it out. so far google results have shown this particular malware is almost impossible to get rid of.

ok i tried what you guys said, even ran the programs in the order you guys said and still no luck. If it wasn't that so ofter while on google or I.E. ill click on a link for example, click on "post reply" on this website and it will take me to some random site. Its always a different one and i have to then hit the back button to get back to where I was and try again. That is all i can see. I dont know if its eating up resources or worse. Im curious why only AVAST is pickign it up and non of my other programs are.

    ones i have tried already
    Avast antivirus (free copy)
Malwarebytes antimalware premium edition (paid for)
    Malware antixploit
then i ran windows defender figuring what the hell ill give it a shot. Still nothing.
    restarted the laptop
Then I went with one of your recommendations

    first i ran adwcleaner4.111, restarted
then i ran combo fix. rebooted.

windows started up flawlessly and bam that stupid avast warning pops up. It tells you what process its in , its in C:windows\system32\svhost.exe and the infection is called URL:Mal

My last hope is emsisoft antilamware v8.1.0.4. It may not be the newest, but its worth my giving it ago. I hope it fixes it bccause i really dont want to have to delet everything and start over again.

You can always just reinstall your system without formatting your hard disk. After you do that, install kaspersky or eset on trial version and delete virus from Windows.Old folder. You won't lose any data if you backup your documents folder to second partition or pendrive.

GodlikeRU, I have my entire system backed up on a 4 TB external hard drive. I thought I would do that and just try and start over, the problem is the virus or malware whatever its called is also ion the back up somewhere. so even if i whipe out my drives completely if I use the backup to restore everything, the virus is gonna be there hiding. its reallyl frustrating. When I originally made the backup of all my drives ect I did so just so in cases like this , I would be able to have everything all set up already.. im gonna keep trying different malware removers until something cleans it. lol

It can hide there but won't be executed because you will overwrite your system files with new ones and then you can safely remove the virus using AV software.

lol threads like this is always hysterical.

    "Here is what you do:
Try a gazillion types anti virus/spyware/adware/keylogger/stupidity/porn/whatever software I only heard about that may contain nasty stuff as well.
Dump log file and spam the entire thread with processes and file hierarcy nobody cares about and that doesnt matter
This makes me a anti everything hero/master"

The quickest and best way is pretty much always to format or save and scan files you want to keep and reinstall/format. But of course, nobody gets to brag about their anti everything skills going this route

So anyone that tries to help by suggesting a different anti virus and basically trying to help the guy and potentially save him a whole lot of work basically is open to being ridiculed by people like you?
