First off I would like to apologize if this was posted somewhere else or there
was or is a solution to this problem. I am not the most tech-know how to guy.
I apologize for any grammatical/spelling errors too.

This is more of rant/I am sooOOoo bloody tired and the thought of not having my work
done is well, I am not even angry anymore, just really really sad....
    :(
Two or three weeks ago my laptop started crashing during games or when
I was doing work in CAD or Revit. The crashes got progressively worse.

I updated to the latest drivers it seemed to work well enough (I did not
install the Physics engine) But I had another issue the mouse would randomly
freeze up. Considering how busy I have been I just decided to wait until I had some
free time to call Alienware tech-support. Well tonight, it just wouldn't start up after
crashing. The thing that frustrates me the most is about a year ago I had the same problem.

They promised me that I would get new parts, not refurbished, but new parts. Yet
how is that I ended up with the same bloody problems as the last time?

I have seen this many times, and almost all of the cases had fans clogged up and heat sinks almost full.

Did you ever clean your heat sinks and fans ?

+1 to this. Cleaning out the fans and heat sink is a must. Depending on how dusty your environment is depends on how often you should clean them.

Thank you for the advice. The fans were fairly clean, I dusted them off anyway.
I was so tired that night I completely forgot that I actually finally registered on these forums.
So I came back here because I have no sound working on my system. :(

    Here is the updated information.

They sent me a refurbished motherboard with the latest Bios version. It is nice, saves me the trouble of doing it myself.
They sent me a new Screen, which was not installed because the tech guy said he would have to take the actual screen
out of its casing and usually they ship the whole thing together to replace it. I figured that the screen wasn’t the problem
anyway so he took the new part (screen) with him. They sent me two 580m Video Cards for replacement minus heat sink and fan.

This is where it gets interesting (not really). I had forgotten about this, my original system had two 460M in sli mode.
They kept crapping out on me. They shipped me a completely new laptop and only one video card and separate fan and heat sink
for the guy to install two video cards (not sure why it wasn’t done at the factory, someone could have realised that I am missing
another video card. Since they upgraded me to a gtx 580m I didn’t make too much of stink about since I was really busy I forgot.
Plus the service guy at that time said they will ship all the parts and he will call me to install it. He never did and I had forgotten.

    Until now :/
So when the guy replaced the Mother board and the one graphics card he realised that they didn’t ship
him the heat sink and fan. So did alienware figure I still have the heat sink and fan from when they sent
me a replacement the last time? I am confused and not sure how to proceed.
Also, has anyone else had this much trouble with replacing components and or their laptops breaking
    down so often?
I have had one computer that has run for about 6 years only thing I upgraded is the video card and
memory. Yet it still runs and plays latest games well maybe not BF4 anymore. :p
I just don’t understand how this laptop keeps breaking down on me. I play games I do CAD, Revit and
Photoshop work on it. I have it tiled to allow more air flow underneath it. I read on these forums there are
throttling problems with these cards. Does that mean the fan revs up really high or is it something to do with
the operation of the gpu? Should I ask for something more stable newer (video card), what would you guys recommend?
Should I just ask them to send the heat sink and fan or just send the video card back? I
Don’t like being greedy, but I just want my system running stable for longer than a year before I have to call
    them with problems.

Wow this is long and I hope I didn’t bore you guys too much with all this reading. (too late) :/
Thank you for any help and or advice. I am currently doing fresh install and seeing if that
will help with my audio problems.

    Wish me luck.

    Hello

    Can any one help?
    Please.

I reinstalled the OS Win 7 64 bit.
Sound still not coming through. Although when I go to sound properties where it shows me
my sound options with the icons. Some of them when selected show that something is playing when I play
some music file. Yet there is no sound coming through my speakers or headphones.

Another thing I realized is that my USB connectors don't register anything plugged into them (left side). When I plug my mouse into the USB ports opposite (right side of laptop) the mouse works.

I installed the audio drivers from the Alienware support site.
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling them and still nothing.

Anything else that I can try?

    Cheers.

You need to call 1-800-ALIENWARE and explain that they did not send all of the necessary parts. They will need to set up a new dispatch with the parts that are required to get the job done.
