    Hello,

My 6970Ms died a few days ago and I decided to move on to GTX 780M. so my question is which heatsink should I get? Should I get the one in R2 or the one in R1 for GTX 580M? Also, for upgrading to 780M GTX, is there any requirement on the BIOS version?

You're going to need the 100 watt Nvidia heatsinks from an M18x-R1 or R2. I believe the part number for the primary (under the WASD keys) is JW8P7. Secondary is Y3WC7. Just pop them into a search engine and you'll see a few places to purchase. You could also post a wanted add in the NBR Marketplace. Make sure you research those part numbers though. I found them in a part number spreadsheet that I keep.

Check your current heatsinks and see if you can find a sticker on top with "NV100W" or "AT100w"

If you can then that's "100" watt heatsink, theres not a lot of difference between the AMD/ATI and nVIDIA heatsinks, but check your thermal tape, it's probably 3-4 years old now and may need to be replaced. If you do need to purchase thermal tape, don't cheap out, spend a bit and your card will last longer

You can use AMD heatsinks but you need to remove the black tape which covers the centre area of the heatsink as that tape wil prevent proper heat transfer as NVIDIA GPU die is on a different angle/size...

cool. I ordered a pair of GTX 780M kit which should have the tape. I will continue using my current ATI 100W heatsink then.

Hopefully that AMD heatsink will work. Make sure you get the support plate as well.
