just curious what you guys plan on doing after your 18 has reached its limits. Are there any other brnads or system builders you can recommend who build desktop replacement laptops (sounds funny) with serious ass kicking like two 980m's or even desktop CPU"s? I know it maybe awhile away but im already looking.

I wish alienware would do something crazy and completely unlock the bios for us since we suffered enough.

Clevo is the only true enthusiast brand left

As Octiceps mentioned, Clevo is the only true enthusiast brand left.
Honestly it baffles me that Alienware would decide to leave the door wide open on a market segment they had such prominence in. They basically gifted their enthusiast customer base to Clevo, but are too busy smelling their own farts to realize it yet.

No way in hell I'd buy one of those new machines. I've already started building an x99 desktop, I'll probaby hang on to my gpu-less r2 and decide what to do with it later.

MSIGT80 has a soldered CPU, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

I never plan until it's time to really put down the cash, sure I look and read but things change, sometimes for the worse and sometimes for the better for what you specifically are looking for.

Might go back to a desktop build. Clevo/sager are a nice option but import taxes kind of kill the idea.
All other brands are just a one year plan with no upgrade option.

Life after 18? If you're not in college/university you should at least be in trade school, otherwise what the hell are you doing with your life? :D

Alienware is going where the money is ie the mainstream market. I know it's easy to get tunnel vision on these forums but let's face it, we (the enthusiast segment) account for maybe 5% of the market share, and there's much more $$$ to be made in the low margin, high volume segment.

The reason Clevo can afford to keep doing what it's doing is because they have an incredibly diverse portfolio. We're obviously most familiar with their enthusiast grade machines, but if you go to Clevo's website you'll see they have an incredible range of products, ranging from thin and light ultraportables to the thick and heavy P570WM. Hell they even have their own tablet.

Therefore I believe Clevo's product portfolio allows them to effectively cater to and capture every market segment, and so they can afford to keep their high margin, low volume enthusiast line of laptops.
