is there a Functioning driver for 7970 SLI for my M18xR2?

I need Doom.
I need Vulkan support.
I need a 7970 SLI driver that doesn't Black Screen my M18xR2.

Does anyone know why all the drivers after 15.11 bork to black?
can anything be done about it?

and why the Catalyst driver software 15.11.1.beta fails to install?

The question was for Windows7, because the driver for the 7970 there was so old it had no vulkan support , and i couldnt play Doom 2016.

So I got my windows 7 updated to SP1 and all the security updates, and went to the M$ windows 10 upgrade / media creation page and ran the tool there, using the install now option, that yes it does still upgrade you for free despite being no longer advertised, M$ really want us all to have windows 10.

it still had the same graphics gdriver from win7, so no good for vulkan games or much else.

I'm amazed that both the ati drivers available for win10 both still cause the black screen of wtf. perhaps it is only affecting alienware or only m18x's? I dont know.
hilarious how M$ will automatically reinstall it minutes after rebooting from safe mode having removed it, and right back to black screen yet again, and before you say to tick remove the software as well when uninstalling the offending driver, NOT removing the software was intentional, because windows10 didnt do that a second time, it actually learned and did something different the next time. and now it works. M$ put back the latest ati driver released just a few days ago, the same one that was black screening, only it works this time. and I have Doom. and its quite fast with the ati sli which apparantly benefit greatly from the low overheads of both windows 10 and the vulkan libraries.

Now, what is a good game to play that the ATI SLI are known to excel at?

Usually from dell support page. Other than that , let windows install the drivers for you.

 

Haha, thanks for answering but good grief, have you got an Alienware? have you ever looked for up to date drivers from Dell for anything older than the 3 years service contract that they like to sell?

I have checked for graphics drivers for 3 models of alienware laptops and none of them are up to date, it's why I ask here, becuase when one asks NVidia and AMD they will insist that we have to go to Dell becuase its the OEM that makes modifications to the gpu cards to make them work in their laptops (usually power and thermal related issues, so in theory pretty important to get right driver wise), and in the case of of these AMD7970m's it looks like we have been abandoned by both Dell and AMD... soddit Im gonna phone them and settle this, its bugging me, and I know Dell phone support here in UK are decent and free if on landline and they open in ahalf an hour.

I should explain also that I do let windows install the drivers, its the only way i can use my machine and write this - it makes a bold attempt to make up for AMDs faillings, but it takes it a good while to do it (after rebooting from safe mode having had to remove the defective AMD drivers), I watch it blink the screen dozens of times as it tries various configurations, it eventually settles on a version 17.7 that is really really old and will not play DOOM or SWBT2 - my two bestest games.

In my experience, the best way to update alienware drivers is to use the Dell Support Assist program that their support page tries to foist on you, it actually works really well and saves a lot of hassle becuase Dell rarely make their filenames show what the drivers are for which quickly gets messy when one has to download many drivers and choose from a list of dozens of drivers not all of which are for my laptop even though its the page is meant to be specific to my service tag and unique to my configuration, it isnt, and apart from being confusing with extra drivers that are not for my model, i have found that some of them even mess up things like SD card and thermal cooling settings if you happen to install the wrong one which i'd think shouldnt be possible but turns out it is, and the best way around that mess really is to let the support program do it all, if, that is, they have made the drivers available, which they often havn't done.

Dell Support Assist is finally and i think only recently now available in the Windows Store (for free), in a version that actually works - for the longest time there were old versions that didnt even load up, at least on my old Dell 6400.

The intel equivelent driver installer is also excellent and between them I now have all correct working and up to date drivers (except video and sd card (dell have the wrong driver for my sd card reader on both the support page and in the support assist software and i once found the right one by searching hardware ids from device manager but havent been able to recreate that bit of google luck after a recent reset)), even where there is over lap like with the iGPU and some of the wifi network and bluetooth cards, it all works, and intel installs the latest drivers not dell, and tfft.
