I reinstalled windows the other day and all my programs, hwinfo, intel xtu ect. , I went back to mr. fox's link with all the screen grabs ect. the problem im having is some of the options are changed or i can't find at all.

    I am happy running my 4930MX @ 41 x 4,

I chose the overclock level 3 provided by dell in the bios, but changed all the multipliers from 43's to all 41's.

I then went into intel xtu and changed core current limit to 130.000A, processor current limit to 135.000A, and core voltage to 1.170V. It seems to be running fine, but does anyone recommend any other settings in XTU?

The main threads say to disable "Package Turbo Power Lock" in XTU. I can't find that option anywhere in XTU. Is it possible they removed it?

Also I remember there was a time I could set the voltages in the bios but again i can't find that option anywhere in the bios either.

I basically guessed these settings, and they seem to work fine for me and run at decent temps.

In the bios mr foxes settings say to set the long duration power limit to 32767
long duration time window to 128
short duration power limit options to 32767

Should I use those settings in my bios for running my cpu at 41 x4 ? why are they so much higher then the ones given by the stock overclock settings? I think the stock duration time window is 28 or something and the other two are in the hundreads no where close to a number over 32 thousand.

Any help would be great. specifically in the bios for those settings i mentioned above. thank you guys

This option is in XTU only if it is enabled (in my case).

Keep in mind that every chip is different and will require custom tuning of voltages and speeds to get the best out of them.

no i know its only in XTU, its not there at all, Could it be possible that because i disabled it originally its gone for good now? Even after a complete format and reinstall of windows.

Meaker it may have even been you who gave me the voltages you thought i would need for running at 41 x 4. One version of the bios I was actually able to enter in a voltage number although i dont for the life of me remember what version that way, what voltage it was , nor what number that voltage was supposed to be. I figured since i reformatted everything windows xtu would have that that package turbo lock would have been back , but i guess its turned off.

I'm running the most current bios a10, not sure if one of the prior ones allowed you to change voltages or not. I doubt it.

Anyway I'm not looking for world records here, just gaming and internet, and not that my laptop is set up in my living room, I bought a hdmi cable (I have a million of them) that was like 15 feet long, so i been gaming on my 58inch panasonic plasma and its been friggin great!!! I even bought a wireless mouse with the trackball on the left side so the mouse stays still and you just move the trackball. SO far its been great for RTS games, and just using a xbox one controller for other supported games.

Anyone have any recommendations for these in our bios

"n the bios mr foxes settings say to set the long duration power limit to 32767
long duration time window to 128
short duration power limit options to 32767"

just wondering if they have changed over time. I seem to run into problems (freezes ect.) when using those settings. setting the overclock to the stock overclock 3 and then turning down the multiplyers worked best for me for playing games , getting good frame rates and keeping heat somewhat under control.

Also please let me knwo if you would change anything else in XTU . I only changed the ones i listed above. Thanks again guys. I guess alienware just hung us owners out to dry. Haven't gotten a update in forever.

"Package Turbo Power Lock" in XTU comes back with a reset to default bios. Remember to disable 'Package Turbo Power Lock "in xtu if you reset the bios or it's already enabled.
Just use these settings in the bios even if you use 41x4 ... There should not be any problem with these settings.
long duration power limit to 32767
long duration time window to 128
short duration power limit options to 32767
Long and short power limit turns into 4095w in xtu if you use these values over in the bios.
Why use overclocking profile in the bios?
It is mainly the volts that determines the stability of your processor. If you get (Freeze ect.) it's mainly wrong volts you use or instability in Windows that comes from too many crashes ......
Keep in mind that every chip is different when you put volts that should fit your processor.

I thought i had to set overclocking in the bios and in XTU? So your saying set my bios to default and then just use xtu for overclocking? To be honest XTU has a ton of settings that I have no clue what they do or what they are for. Like i said previously I have noticed that when running games I dont really notice a difference in framerates ect. when running at 4.3ghz or 4.1ghz. I do however notice a difference running my 780's core at 960Mhz. Don't ask me where i got 960 from , it just seems to run fast and temps stay under control at those settings.

I just wanted to say thank you for everyones replies. I know to some of you its gotta be annoying answering the same questions over and over again. It is appreciated. On that note if anyone is running their 4930MX at 41 x4 or 42 x 4, a screen shot of your XTU settings would be awesome. lol.

i actually just used a members profile he sent me with xtu and ran firestrike and my temps were literally around 20 degrees cooler then it was when i was trying to overclock it not knowing what hte hell i was doing. My firestrike score did go down, but still scored over 9K!! I asked him if i could upload it, just waiting on his reply so some of you other guys like me can just import his XTU settings and have your processor run cool and still perform well.

You were likely just using excessive voltage.

    Hi
I said to you that you should put these settings in the bios...
    Extreme edition<bios>
Extreme edition core ratio limits <disabled> Don't use the oc settings !!!
    41 or higher
    41 or higher
    41 or higher
    41 or higher
long duration power limit to 32767
long duration time window to 128
short duration power limit options to 32767

Afterwards you do the processor overclocking in Xtu.... volts/Amps/current etc...
Remember to disable 'Package Turbo Power Lock "in xtu if you reset the bios or it's already enabled.

It is mainly the volts that determines the stability of your processor. If you get (Freeze ect.) it's mainly wrong volts you use or instability in Windows that comes from too many crashes ......
Keep in mind that every chip is different when you put volts that should fit your processor and your chosen Overclock.

The problem here is I never overclocked any of my computers . My first try at overclocking was with a intel i7 990X. The chip I had must have been from a good batch because i had my computer running at 4.5ghz 24/7 with liquid cooling. All I did was change the multiplier and one of the voltages. (I dont remember what it was called ).

I wish i could have gotten one of you guys to overclock the i7 990x for me because if i was able to get it running that fast being clueless, imagine what someone who knows what they were doing could score. lol.

XTU is very confusing to me. They should have advanced mode and a beginners mode. lol. I think i need just a tad bit more voltage to have my machine run totally stable, but there are like 5 different voltages in XTU.
