    m18xr2 3940xm @4300mhz

had this problem for a while now and no idea how to fix it

after restart works fine, problem manifests once every 1 or 2 days

haven't been able to find any other way to "unstick" it other than a restart

    normally cpu runs at 4300mhz

i tried clicking "speedstep" off and on in XTU and that unlocked the cpu but also messed up all the other settings so a restart is faster

    just curious why its happening

i run hwinfo, afterburner and argus monitor, but nothing that messes w cpu speedstep

Look in your MSCONFIG and try disabling things that might be causing it.

Also do you have an extra HDD with a copy of Windows you can boot from and see if it occurs on a clean install. That would rule out a software issue.

Does it run @ 4.3GHZ all the time? I dont think thats a good idea if you do.

As long as temps are managed effectively, this doesn't hurt anything. My 2920XM and 3920XM and 4930MX have been idling at speeds like that for several years without any adverse implications that I can identify. It's terrible for battery run time, but I don't really care about that since I rarely have any reason to run on battery power.
