    Means one of 2 things:
    1. No 980M stock
    2. 980M being phased out

Or, it could also mean the web site is screwed up again. Only way to know for sure is to try and place an order by phone. That's the smarter way at any rate.

It may also mean that with 980M SLI it delivered more performance than they wanted anyone to have, so they had to dumb it down with 970M SLI. With only a single 330W AC adapter available, you cannot do any hardcore GPU overclocking with 980M SLI, so it's somewhat of a non-issue unless you want to run 980M SLI stock just for playing games..

It's not a screw up. Too many people cashing in their warranties, not to mention it was dirt cheap in Canada at $250 for 970M SLI to 980M SLI upgrade.

What do you mean "cashing in their warranties"?

Then what would explain that poor fella being offered a R9 M290X xfire rig in place of this 980M....

Perhaps. Maybe their rationale is if the only thing available as a system exchange is a massive performance downgrade it will deter people using their warranty to fix problems that should otherwise be covered. It's not as horrible as being offered a pathetic BGA machine as a replacement for an M18xR1, R2 or 18, but it's still totally unacceptable. If I were faced with that situation, I'd say "no thank you" and fix it myself using my own money rather than accept such an insulting downgrade.

maybe those of us with the 880's should start cashing in on our warranties and getting this replacement with the 970's. Though I'm not sure it would be a noticeable difference at this point.

The 970M would provide a modest bump in performance and the Maxwell architecture would help in other regards, but I would not accept the 192-bit downgrade because I also happen to use the cards for other tasks that do benefit from the higher raw bandwidth.
