My XTU setup is constantly reading 57 degC to 61 degC idling on 4.1ghz 1 core. Throttlestop on the other hand shows 40-47 degC on idle 4.1 ghz 1 core. what gives?

Since when? Can you post an example of that?

All programs are reading data from the exact same sensors. ThrottleStop tends to do a better job than the competition because it operates at a higher Windows priority which gives it better access to the sensors. The More Data option also lets it read the temperature sensors more often than any of the competition.

@unclewebb, apologies... Throttlestop 8 seems to have remided the problem for me... I used to use 6.00 and temps used to be like 10C of what HWinfo64 showed... This was under load too... Doesn't seem to be an issue now.. I do take back my words... Please accept my humble apologies...

@ TomJGX - No worries. If you ever have a problem with ThrottleStop or if you don't understand or don't agree with anything it is showing you, just send me a message. I am always interested in knowing about these things so I can improve ThrottleStop or come up with a reasonable explanation to what you are seeing.

Reading temperatures from any Core i CPU is pretty standardized these days. There shouldn't be any significant difference between different monitoring programs. When partially loaded, core temps can jump around significantly so two different programs might sample a sensor at slightly different times and show some large differences in core temperatures. If you run a program like Prime 95 Small FFTs, you tend to get a very consistent load across the cores which should produce consistent temperatures across the cores.

There were a lot more issues with the previous Core 2 processors. Intel did not do a great job documenting them so different programs might report different temperatures. On the Core 2 CPUs, it can be difficult proving who is right because there is no official documentation from Intel to back up either side.

@ Raidriar - If you need a second opinion, can you try running RealTemp at the same time while testing? Post a screenshot so I can have a look.

Sorry again... I think it might have been that the older version wasn't working too well with Win8.1... 8.0 seems to be perfectly fine...
