right click on desktop, go to screen resolution and click the dropdown box and select duplicate displays.

That is selected, the display is duplicated on the desktop and plays media fine through both screens, Just not games.

Are you trying to extend the displays so you have one large screen?

i have a a 42" lcd tv and plug it into my m18x so i can play games on both monitors. Some times my brother likes watching me play so i put it up on the big screen.

but with my m18x with crossfire 7970 it just plays the game through the external monitor.

could really use some help with this.

plays movies through both displays fine

shows desktop through both displays fine

everything is fine through both displays EXCEPT when i game. it will only play the game through the external display.
until i unplug the external and it switches back to the inbuild screen.

You might have to play in windowed mode if you want the duplicated desktop for both monitors. I think the only way to support multiple monitors is if the game supports multiple screens or you use eyefinity which makes spans a wider resolution across multiple screens.

i know that i have an m17x, but i just tried battlefield 2, lego batman 2, civilization 5, fallout 3, left for dead 2, and rage and they all displayed on both screens in full screen for me. its possible the game(s) you are playing have a problem with this but im betting its something else. maybe there is an option in your ccc that you are missing. i dont know what it could be though cause i have a nvidia card.

Try turning off CrossFire and see if that works. Not that running one GPU is a good option, but as a means of testing. It may be an issue with the AMD driver also, and Lord knows it would not be the first issue with 7970M CrossFire that we have seen.
