Hello, my battery is toast and the wires felt weirdly stiff. IIRC, these wires didn't seem to have a crunchy texture but that might just be my mind playing tricks on me. Either way, I unplugged the battery for now. I don't know why but I've always been doing the "desktop battery charge" and it still failed. The problems quickly progressed from being 100% okay to holding only 10-30 minutes of charge even on the least energy demanding settings while idle. This morning, I'm notified of "Permanent damage has been detected on your battery. Please replace it...press F1 to continue,,,," I got my AW18 new on August/September 2014.

I'm basically running a desktop where I have to have the laptop plugged in. Anyway, where can I source a battery? I'm afraid to try ebay and am scared of Dell's potential to gouge me (like how car dealers charge 5-10x what the part actually costs).

EDIT: It seems the battery isn't even listed on Dell's website.

    Thanks

    You can try here:

If your still under warranty, then of course try dell first. The average price is 90USD, so if Dell has it in stock for the same or lesser price get it from them

Batteries are consumables and not covered under warranty. Just call spare parts at dell or Amazon/eBay

Sorry for the late reply but thanks for the guidance guys. This is exactly what I'm looking for, a new battery. All I could find with my limited knowledge are used ones and they scare me.
