I found this about the Kingston HyperX Plug n Play RAM that most of us have been buying.

The whole article is here: http://hw-lab.com/kingston-launches-hyperx-high-performance-memory.html

If I understand correctly, the plug n play RAM should work at 1866 if it senses our computer is capable.

What do think of this? I found some similar Kingston 1600Mhz that isn't plug n play but it is $30 cheaper with a rebate.

What do you think? It doesn't say anything about maintaining the same latency at the higher speed.

right now 1866 isnt worth it.

I'm saying that the 1600Mh RAM that we all bought, for about $100, should work automatically at 1866Mh if I am understanding Plug n Play.

yes that will work, but at 1600mhz, its not certified to run at 1866mhz unless you overclock beyond its SPD etc..

hyperx 1600mhz is rated for 1600mhz, to run at 1866 would be out of spec and be considered overclocking.

the PNP ram rated @ 1866mhz will run at 1866mhz without needing XMP profiles selected.

means you can install the ram into the laptop and it will work at the rated frequency without changing any bios settings.

I found more info about Kingston Plug n Play here: G73Sw tested with Kingston's new Plug N Play Hyper X

Here is my interpretation. If you install 1600Mh Plug n Play RAM into a computer rated at 1333Mh and you overclock the computer to 1600Mh, the RAM will follow suite without any bios change. If I'm correct, I think the plug n play aspect of the 1600Mh RAM is worthless in an m18x but I might be wrong because I am new at this.

I'm not an overclocker or a big system mod guy. I can say without a doubt that Plug and Play isn't remotely worth the price. Just get the regular stuff and get comfy with the BIOS. It's clean and very easy to use. Find RAM, change to 1600Mh and you're good to go. :D

I was really shocked at how simple it was. Not to mention that in the M18x it auto-reads the speed of the RAM so it's entirely possible that the PnP is redundant with this motherboard for all I know.

    What is up to interpretation?

Plug 1866mhz ram into an HM67 mobo
    ....then it runs at 1866mhz

    Did I miss something?
m18x mobo is essentially m17x-r3 mobo with a pci-e expansion and better audio, and it works fine on r3.

Unless the part number ends in "X", the ram will run at advertised speeds natively given the correct operating conditions (in this case, a sandy bridge CPU)

I opted for the Plug n Play stuff simply because the price difference was NOT much and I trust SPD more than XMP personally

Note that the price was not bad for me because I got 2x 4GB kits (4x 2GB sticks). I actually would have stuck with just 4GB total ram....but those empty 2 spots just needed filling haha. At 8GB kits the price premium is not worth it (agreed) but at 4GB kits I would get the PnP
