Hey everyone,
I sometimes use my Alienware M18x R2 to connect my Xbox 360 to the internet so I was wondering is it safe to use the laptop with the lid closed? would it damage the screen? I doesn't get real hot when i'm using it as a router.

There's no harm in having the screen closed.

Even for a long period of time? And what about during gaming when it does get hot does that make a difference or no?

The machine may run a little hotter with the screen shut while gaming. I highly doubt the Heat would damage the the screen or internals.. Especially if you're just using the AW as a router. If in doubt keep an eye on your temps. Personally I keep the lid open even when using an external screen, but that's more for convenience thing than anything else.
If you're really pushing your machine to the limit and gaming with an external monitor I'd keep it open just for the extra ventilation. But I really don't see any reason to keep the lid open if under most circumstances...even extentened gaming sessions. -
thanks for all the info!

As TBoneSan said. There should be no problem:
With the AW18 and the the Lid closed for 10 with Valley Benchmark running a thermal image looks like in the picture. The room temperature was low 19.0°C but still not as hot as i thought at first. Max is about 45°C
The cooling on the M18x R2 should be the the same or even a bit better.ped, NeoteriX, TBoneSan and 1 other person like this.
