I'm assuming this is an easy question for you Alienware guys. I've got a year and a half old M18xR1 laptop, and I'd like to know the maximum capabilities of the motherboard. For instance:

    1. What is the maximum speed processor the motherboard will handle. It came with an overclocked 2920xm quad-core. This motherboard will not accept a six-core, right? (I have no idea) And if not, what is the fastest possible I can get in a quad?

    2. What is the fastest RAM that it will handle? I've got 1600mhz now. Will it go faster? (1866, 2133?)

I thought that Dell had a place to plug in these questions, but I couldn't find it, plus I don't trust them to have accurate info... Just drawing from past experience. Anyhoo, any help would be appreciated.

Here are some links to existing threads where you can find answers to these questions.

http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...8x-benchmark-thread-part-2-a.html#post8158870 (look at screen shots in the leader board links and you will see johnksss's memory speeds in particular, as well screen shots my benchmark runs and others on the leaderboard for CPU overclock speeds for both 2920XM and 2960XM CPUs)

http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...ridge-ivy-bridge-cpu-overclocking-thread.html (with the right settings and proper cooling, you should be able to hit 4.7 to 4.8GHz with any good quality 2920XM or 2960XM... if you have a really great one, 4.9GHz to 5.0GHz will be achieved)

The maximum CPU options are 2920XM and 2960XM for R1, 3920XM and 3940XM for R2.
