Hey guys, today I noticed a strange problem with my M18x R1. I let my machine download something overnight and uTorrent automatically powered my computer off. In the morning I powered it on and the bios (POST) boot progress bar was stuck at like one fourth. I know what is the problem, USB stick left in my Toshiba U3.0 docking station. So I removed the stick and shut down the computer like I did many times before. But today I started to have a very weird problem.

After powering up and booting into Windows (with no problems whatsoever) my mouse was dead (Logitech G700 receiver in one of the USB2.0 ports) and so was my keyboard (this one is plugged in Toshiba Dynadock U3.0, which is connected to USB3.0 port). I tried restarting the PC, but the problem persists.

So I went to Device Manager to see what is wrong and there I found the problem. Both Intel USB 2.0 Controller and Renesas USB 3.0 Controller had yellow exclamation mark over its icons. Both are showing the same code - Code 10 (This device cannot start). Strange thing is if I disable and enable either of them, their respective ports come back to life again. 1 out of 3 attempts to re-enable Renesas Controller end with hard PC freeze, but right now I'm typing this post on my keyboard happily connected over USB 3.0 port.

But the keyboard (so all of the ports too) work in BIOS.

So there must be some problem with initializing both of USB controllers when Windows starts. Doesn't anyone had same issue?

    What I tried:
    1. Booting without anything connected to USB ports and connecting it after boot. No avail.
    2. Removing battery and holding power button for 30 seconds. No effect.
    3. Reinstalling drivers for both controllers. No effect.
    4. Booting into safe mode to see if the problem is present too. Yes, it is.
    5. Reflashing Bios (I am using svl7's A05 unlocked) and then loading defaults. No effect.

All of the ports are dead again after reboot, so I have to manually disable and enable both controllers again. If PC freezes when enabling Renesas USB3.0, then I have to reboot once more and so on... Really annoying.

    But everything else works!

    Thanks for any help, guys.

Hi again guys, I've got a quick update and you can lock the topic now.

Before posting how I fixed it, I just wanted you to know that I had connected Notepal U3 Plus fans to USB2.0 port overnight. Maybe that had something to do with it too (besides the removed flash drive in the morning followed by hard shutdown). Maybe not, I don't know.

So... The final step was to re-install Windows. So I did it, USB ports were working fine during installation and after boot. I started to install drivers - for Intel Chipset first. And I had first system freeze during installation of drivers for 1C26 Intel controller. After hard reboot I installed the drivers 'as administrator' and it went fine without any problem. Next I installed Renesas USB3.0 drivers. Again system froze during installation, again hard reboot and again installation with administrator privileges. Installation went fine this time.

And that's it. I installed rest of drivers and system is now working without any problem. I don't know what happened in the morning, but I know for sure it kinda killed my system. Now it is working fine, even after any count of reboots.
