Time to say goodbye my friends

so disregard my last post. I did indeed buy a Alienware 15r4 with 16GB ram, and a 1070, with a 256gb m.2 drive. I was happy , it whipped my Alienware 18 i7 4930mx and 780sli badly and this was all with stock settings. Then today luck struck me and I came across extra money to waste ( others say waste, I say it’s my hobbies and I love it) so I ordered another Alienware 15 r4. The look of it and the feel of it was just perfect for me. I was gaming on it and it was sitting on my lap. All in all just a nicely designed laptop.
Was I happy with that . NO. So I returned it. And instead ordered a new Alienware 15 r4 maxed out as can be for that model.

8th Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-8950HK (6-Core, 12MB Cache, Overclocking up to 5.0GHz) ( we will see about 5GHZ. I’ll believe it when i see it) but I’ll take 6 Cores at 4ghz everyday.

NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GTX 1080 with 8GB GDDR5X ( I have to say the gtx 1070 kicked ass and I didn’t even try and overclock it) I was so used to my 780m sli that I hadn’t even realized how bad ass all the 10’s series cards had become. I can only imagine what the new 1080 does with a i9 to go with it.

32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 2666MHz (doubled my ram and upped the clock speed) Just because it felt right lol

This is where I was confused. Being such a thin and small laptop there isn’t much room for a lot of stuff. The one I had yesterday had a 256GB m.2 drive and a 1TB 2.5 drive.
I took out the 1TB drive and installed my Samsung 512GB SSD drive because it’s been one of the best drives I ever bought.
So this time I only ordered one m.2 drive a
512GB PCIe M.2 Class 50 SSD and I’ll use my Samsung in the 2.5 spot. That leaves me one more m.2 spot and what the Alienware rep called a half m.2 spot. Neither was I allowed to buy and add to the order at the time. For now 1TB should be fine although I have no idea about m.2 drives are they faster then the Samsung SSD drives?
I updated the screen also figured with a 1080 @ 1080p I might be hitting 120fps now and then lol.

And finally for giggles I upgraded Killer 1550 802.11ac 2x2 WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0 for an extra $25.

Probably the best part after learning the hard way with my last Alienware purchase is I got 4 years service including parts and accidental damage , in house fixing for $100

I wish the AW15 was able to use the same screen as the XPS 15 (100% AdobeRGB Touch display).

It absolutley boots into windows at 5ghz and i was web browsing etc and it stayed at 5ghz with no crashes or anything. All benchmarks it runs at 4.8ghz though no matter what. I have overclocking off because it literally dosesn't run slower then 4.6ghz ever with overclocking off. right now im am downloading and uploading multiple torrents, and downloading from steam, and writing this and its running stock at 4692mhz @ 61 degrees.

I had both systems remember so i have been able to personally compare one with the i7 8750h with 16gb of ram and a gtx 1070,and now i have everything the same except i have a i9 8950hk, 32GB of ram, and a 1080 Max-Q. I can tell you that at stock settings, going by what aida64 sensor panel is showing me, going from the i7 8750h to the i9 8950hk you are literally getting a 1GHZ difference in stock clock speeds. the i7 did boost to over 4ghz barely. the i9 hasn't gone below 4680mhz.

the 1080 max Q gpu clock speed is slower then the 1070 but the max q still beat the 1070 in every benchmark i ran generating less heat, and using less power. Just messing around I added 200mhz to the gpu clock of hte max q with afterburner and ran everything and never crashed once or any issues. I can say I am 10000% happy i decided to send the first one back and get this one.
Having the 4 extra years of parts and in home service was an extra bonus. My alineware 18 only had one year of that service and i had to use it twice and twice they shipped me the motherboards and the guy showed up changed it out and it was good to go. def worth getting if your gonna spend the money on these expensive laptops

 

Quick edit i was wrong . With the alineware bios overclock 1 the laptop stays at a steady almost 4.7ghz.

With overclockinf turned off in the bios the laptop runs at about 4.3ghz until boost kicks in. So basically the i9 stock speed is slightly faster then the i7’s top boost speed.
