Does anyone know much about the MSI GT80 Titan? It looks like a step up from the AW 18. Any comments on this potential move? I would much appreciate your opinion.
Thanks.

Step carefully and quietly, retracing your steps up and out, and don't touch any Alien eggs on the way...

It's a step up overall, unless HDMI-IN, SATA 3 2.5"/mSATA (dying form factor) and 4.2Ghz without throttling are important to you.
Since I see you with mostly lower end I7s across the board, I believe GT80 is a better fit. If the CPU for you now is a priority then your only choice is the 870, pending 6820HK overclocking potential. -
EUROCOM Sky X9/Clevo P870DM all the way. There is nothing better available. If you haven't already done so, check out my review of the Sky X9. Just my personal opinion, but I think an enthusiast shopping for a new system would be out of their mind to consider anything else available to be a viable option. Unless, of course, your goal is to own something destined for second-fiddle then by all mean knock yourself out with an inferior product like the MSI Titan or a BGA AW17 with an eGPU desktop anchor and enjoy "almost" good performance.
Having said that, I wouldn't recommend any BGA turdbook, regardless of brand or what fancy GPUs it might include... Would not touch it with a 10 foot pole, including the MSI Titan. That would be a waste of money and a downgrade if you already have an Alienware 18. All you need is a 4930MX, Liquid Ultra and a couple of 980M cards and then you have a Titan killer without buying a new machine.
As a matter of principle alone, BGA is absolutely unacceptable and any company marketing a BGA machine as "high performance" is run by people that are either stupid, or liars, or both. -
I don't know what panel the Titan uses, but just know that the Samsung PLS TrueLife in your AW18 is a thing of beauty you will likely not find again.
I pretty much went back to my desktop, and I had a 23" LG IPS monitor. It was entirely decent, but after using the AW18 for a while, that LG just didn't cut it any more.
So I went ahead and bought a Dell UltraSharp 25" 2560x1440 monitor, so now I'm happy.
See, that's how good that Samsung TrueLife panel is. It's obviously not as good as my new UltraSharp, but it was good enough that my old, trusty LG just wasn't bright and crisp enough.Last edited: Dec 2, 2015 -
I'm on an UltraSharp myself. Have been since 2011.
For the first time a replacement has been released. ASUS PG279Q $1200 CDN. The initial release suffers horribly from batches of having backlight bleed. Asus acknowledged and hopefully the second revision will solve this problem. If not I am looking at the ASUS 34" Curved Widescreen with GSYNC, AKA ACER Predator x34.
If I end up with the x34 I will drop performance notebooks altogether as I will need max framerates and will be going with 3/4 GPU setups till I die! I will just deal with having a crappy notebook. -
Thinking about selling my 18 for a MSI GT80 Titan.
