    Hey guys,

I have an M18xR2 and I recently got the dreaded 7 beeps. When I turn on my laptop, the LCD does not turn on, the keyboard flickers in a red colour and the word ALIENWARE on the LCD also flickers red and than the dreaded 7 beeps. Now the question is, does that look like a CPU problem or a Motherboard problem. Thanks for the reply in advance.

    JL

PS: I'm out of warranty right now.

7 beeps is saying CPU failure but short of trying another CPU you won't know for sure.

Alienware Systems: My computer shows no image, is beeping or the indicator lights are blinking (No POST / Codes Table) | Dell US

Maybe try reseating the CPU but chances are that won't solve it. Have you had the system apart recently for anything? Seems odd that it would just up and die but anything is possible. Which CPU did you have in there? The good news is if you just need one off the lower end CPU models then they are fairly cheap on ebay, the bad news is I know of no way to rule out the MB short of replacing the CPU.

Exactly.. try reseating the CPU or you'll need to get a new one..

Alright, I'll try reseating it. I was just hoping someone may have had the same symptoms and was able to tell whether it was CPU or Motherboard related because I would hate to buy a CPU and than end up it was the motherboard.

    7 beeps means alot.
CPU, MOBO, and even some jack pulled out can cause 7 beeps.

I have a similiar issue....shut down the system with no prior indication of there being a problem at all...powered it up the next day and was met with the 7 beeps...hasn't worked since. Unfortunately my system is also Out of warranty. I did a bit of research on the issue and the fixes seem a bit unorthodox but I will try just about anything at this point. I'm out quite a bit on this system presently and it makes quite an expensive paper weight. I have the ALIENWARE M17x R4. service tag 11J2FV1 for those who need to check both original and current configurations.. CPU and GPU are recently upgraded like say in the last couple of weeks with the 3940XM and the GTX 870 respectively. I have reseated both, cleared the BIOS all to no avail. You mention that a jack could be pulled out to cause this error message.....anyone know what jack that could be or who has experienced these 7 Beeps and know of a solution?..... any help would be appreciated.
