So I stepped on my tactx headset today, and broke it. It could have been worse though, like the laptop going down with it and onto the floor when the cord was pulled. Luckily that didn't happen, but can anyone recommend a good gaming head set? I'd rather try a wireless one this time. Whats your experiences with different head sets and the M18x r2?

You are lucky that system didn't go with it...

I've got a lightly used Logitech G930 headset. I've probably used it four times and stored it away, it's just collecting dust now. I've got no time for gaming with school/work. The G930's are decent. They're definitely not the best around, but they're the best I've used in the price range.

    Are those wired or wireless?

On a side note, how durable are those audio jacks on our motherboards? Would tugging on them damage or dislodge them from the motherboard or are they pretty solid/ stuck in there ?

Another side note, do our laptops work with 7.1 audio head sets ? I'm eyeing the razer tiamat but it says you. Red a comparable sound card. I don't know is if ours supports it

They're wireless. It uses a USB connection and has its own dock for this.

They are pretty solid, no need to worry about that.

I use the 930 and they work fine for me. There are tons of complaints about the sound quality, but if you're not an audiophile, I think they work well. Logitech also has one of the best warrantys out there. I have called for 2 issues and got new replacements right away...

I got wireless because I ran over my $200+ etymotic earbuds and did the same thing you did by yanking the machine every time I moved around. It's a total pain in the a...

I also have the 930's. not the best but not the worst. They are wireless, that's why I like them. I always go to walk away from my desk. Now I don't have to worry about taking my computer with me.

Battery Life is decent on them.

I would like to get something with with actual surround sound, not the digital stuff..

The real surround sound ones require connections that we don't have. The razer tiahmat has like 6 different ones.

Does anyone know what wireless technology the 930 uses? I use them all over the house from the garage to downstairs kitchen, etc and they mostly work fine...

Once your 930s get old though, the battery starts to not charge anymore and you need to buy a replacement from Logitech. Choose Logitech directly because it's like $6, but eBay sellers mark it up to like $12 or more! Downside of the 930 is the earmuffs start to rip after a bit...very annoying and they don't sell replacements.

I thought about getting some really small bluetooth earbuds for my phone, but I think bluetooth has to short a range so wouldn't mind smaller wireless earbuds for the laptop actually.

I actually like Bluetooth best because it does not require connecting anything physically to the computer. The range is usually not very good... anywhere from 15 to 30 feet depending on the device, but that's not important if you don't wear them except when you are at the keyboard. Those G930 look really fantastic, but having to connect something to the USB ports is too limiting to suit my preferences.

I personally went for a pair of Corsair Vengeance 2000 for their velour pads. Can't stand the vinyl ones.
While not the best out there, it's a great headset for the money paired with Corsair's awesome customer support.
My first pair broke due to a manufacturing problem but they replaced it quickly with the revised version.

It does need a USB dongle to communicate with the PC but that's not an issue for me.

Bluetooth would be nice but i don't think they make any good gaming headsets with Bluetooth. Does anyone know any good gaming headsets that use Bluetooth? good sound and stuff ect?

If they made a tiny micro dongle like my Logitech mouse for a headset, I wouldn't mind that. Having a dongle the size of a thumb drive or something larger connected by a cable doesn't really suit me. I never use my Alienware laptops sitting at a desk and most of the time I have it sitting in my lap, so that presents a problem for my use pattern. I'm not aware of a Bluetooth headset with superior audio quality, but I am OK with average audio as a trade-off for not having to fuss with wires or something too large to be left permanently installed in a USB port. I like the "plug it in and forget it's there" type of connection for peripherals.

Well, not really "good" ones. I have a 5 year old Dell BH200 (discontinued) Bluetooth stereo headset that I purchased with a new XPS M1730 and a cheap RocketFish stereo Bluetooth headset from Best Buy. I haven't looked for anything better because these were inexpensive and do everything I need them to. My ears are too shot from years of metal head-banging and power tools to deserve a good (expensive) audio product... it would be a waste for me.

Maybe this would help: c|net Reviews: Best stereo Bluetooth headphones

These are about the most money I would ever spend on myself for stereo headphones or headset: MEElectronics Air-Fi AF32 Bluetooth Headset or Creative WP-350 - headset

I use a pair of Jaybirds Bluebuds X for bluetooth (with my phone)...they sound phenomenal.

The wireless headset I use with my Alienware is the Sound Blaster Recon3D Omega wireless. Sounds great for virtual 3D headphones. But they run on RF not bluetooth so you need to have the transceiver for them.

You should mosey on over to the accessories sub-forum. There are several threads which have asked this question already with some real knowledgeable audiophiles giving good recommendations.
