I hope you guys are right about the TSA compliant bag, thing. That would REALLY be good!!! I hate taking the m17x outta my bag. Fits tight to begin with.

Batboy: thank you!!!! My very first rep point. Just got my cherry popped. ;)

I ordered the M18x yesterday just after my original post asking about a coupon. But before ordering it, I took advantage of the "buy a Dell eGift card for $300 - $500 and get a FREE $50 Promo eGift card". So after buying the laptop and using the $300 dollar card as part of that purchase, I applied the free $50 promo card to the 18" bag.

After agreeing on the laptop price, he did give me a $20 discount on the bag, but at check out he actually applied it to the purchase of the laptop.

Overall, I am very happy with $20 discount and $50 free promo card applied to the $119.99 bag for the final cost of $49.99, plus taxes with free shipping.

Anyone got the Alienware M18x bag yet and could tell me the size of the pocket in front on the laptop compartment? I was hoping it'd be pretty wide to stick another bag in that pocket.

I'm sorry if this has been asked before guys. I've a Orion Bagpack for 17" Alienware and I was wondering whether it'll fit the M18x or not. Orion has three compartment in it and one has a scan-fast feature compartment. I was told it could fit 2 17" laptop but can it fit 1 M18x?
    Thanks guys.

    I'm awaiting your 'thought' ;)

Seriously tho, anyone received either the Orion backpack or messenger bag could post a small review, maybe some pictures?

Here's my thought it's nice! LOL

I will post some pictures later when I get some time. It should work just fine just not sure it's worth $100. It opens up flat and is smaller than I thought it would be(good thing) and has a lot of compartments. Has the alienhead on the front. The front of the case is protected with hard plastic. The protection should be good.

Excellent thanks. I just can't decide between the messenger bag and the backpack. I'm ordering my M18X tonite so wanting to get either one at the same time.

I have a Targus messenger style bag for my M1730 and fully loaded from the car to the office (a 7 minute walk) it's pretty heavy. I don't mind that at all for the portable gaming it gives me, but I'm thinking with an even heavier laptop the backpack might be the way to go... OTOH, some have indicated the backpack looks enormous and I don't want to look like some crossover tramping gamer lol...

The backpack will make you look like a college kid but it will also be much more comfortable.....I am an engineer, I work with other engineers, we are all nerds....I will go the backpack route haha

LOL - I just had a thought... wouldn't it be cheesy if the Orion Messenger and Backpack were not re-designed for the 18x and Dell was just selling the original version? ;)

I have the M17x version of the Orion Messenger bag. Will be interesting to see if it comes close to fitting. Doubtful of course.

When I think 'backpack for the M18x', this old review pic comes to mind and no, thats not me - grabbed it off of Google. See attached.

There were 2 versions of the Orion pre M18x version, the TSA and non TSA ones. I have the original (and smaller) non TSA one and the M18x should fit in it very snugly. The TSA version does look larger and I strongly suspect it will be the same as the M17x version (M18x and M17x TSA versions the same that is)

My suit will probably answer the college kid question for all but the least astute ;)

The other reason the backpack might be better for me is I've just ordered a Razer Megalodon headset which comes with a hard case. I can't see that fitting in the messenger bag...

Dang... just learned neither M18X Orion case is available in Australasia...

Edit: now I'd really love to know if the M18X would fit the M17X Orion 'cos we do get those here.

I'm curious about the 17 bag working as well. Personally I believe the bag is the same. They just charge more because they feel like it and know they can get away with an extra $20 over the 17 option. More thank likely a marketing ploy to make people think the 18 bag is different. The SSd for example is a different price on the 11 an 17 and so is the os so we know they adjust prices according to what they feel will catch a buyer.

I am tempted at the thought of an 18x. If it helps anyone I did have to mail back my sleek audio wireless sa7s for repair and bought a set of rs180 sennheiser wireless headphones to use in the meantime. They fit NO problem inside the Orion 17 with an r3 the power brick, g9 and several other accessories. The Orion is surprisingly big when filled up it has lots of room.

Thanks for the pictures! If not too much trouble, could you measure the middle pocket in terms of height (thickness)? I was wondering if it could fit the Case Logic SLRC-205 (14.75" x 8.25" x 4.5") so I could carry my camera as well as the laptop in the same bag during flights.

My guess is it won't be tall enough since the total bag is 6" tall.

I believe I asked before on the M17x bag and that was too narrow, but wasn't sure if the M18x bag is exactly the same thickness.

I have my eyes on the Targus Voyager backpack. By the looks of it, its laptop area is a zipped pocket the same size as the backpack, ie: not a pouch inside the backpack (hope that makes sense). Dimensionally, it looks like it could hold the M18 but I guess I'll have to wait and try it out myself.

For those of you with one of the M17xR1/R2 era Orion Messenger Bags, the 18x will fit however the fit will be very tight. You will be able to zip the bag shut but it wont be a 'fast zip'. :(

So unless the current Orion Messenger available on the 18x config page is larger, expect a tight fit if you ordered one with your system.

I just received my M18X orion backpack as well. First AW pack I've ever owned and I must say it is HUGE! One thing I haven't seen mentioned is the empty weight of the backpack itself. 4lbs. So with the 18x in it and everything else it'll be an easy 20-25lb backpack on your back. Just so everyone knows. :)

I just got the M18X Orion backpack and it fit's me well... which is to say its pretty big since I'm 6'2" and 220 lbs. It looks redic huge when my wife puts it on.. she is 5'3". :D

I love it though! I packed it up with about 20 lbs of gear and it felt very comfortable.

Added a couple more bags above to the 1st page post and that old Toshiba one I have found before. On Toshiba's website, it's also on sale till the 23rd...No idea how good/bad it is, but it was made for the 18.4" Toshiba Qosmio.

Should start seeing more options as people get their machines and start having to get bags to carry them around!

I will be toting my m18x all around campus so I was wondering on what I should do about carrying it. I have had some minor back problems from a few years ago, I was a sports camp counselor for 3 years when I was 13-16 doing way too heavy lifting at that age. Currently I can handle up to 25 lbs.(Calculus Book+Calculus Review Book+Lunch) in my current backpack that has managed to take my abuse for 4 years. I'm kinda tight on money so I was wondering on what to get.

Use a near perfect condition Eddie Bauer Backpack with P-Tac Matrix sleeves for iPad, Netbook, Macbook, Laptops and Gamer Laptops
or something equal inside biggest compartment

KAMPUS Duffle Laptop Backpacks by SLAPPA

    STOVEPIPE Duffle Backpacks by SLAPPA

I know a lot of people trust Slappa for backpacks but i was wondering about how the Duffle laptop bag actually fit. I think that the orion is obviously going to be a big hit but at $120 I think it's a bit much.

Taken with my phone just now so they are kinda crummy. First one is just the M18x in the bag and the second is with the PSU, powercord and manual. Plus a wireless mouse. :D

So that is the M17x Orion bag? I have the original Orion backpack (non-TSA) as well as the M18x Orion Backpack, I will compare those 2 as well as a Mobile Edge Premium Backpack I have (the Orion bags are also made by Mobile Edge)
