If I can cram my M18x into the M17x-R2 Orion bag I'll stick with that. Otherwise I'll likely just get the M18x Orion and sell the M17x version which has hardly any wear and tear.

I REALLY like my Swissgear backpack that I currently use for my m17xR1. No way it's gonna fit the 18. Tight fit already. I've never actually checked out one of Alienwares bags first hand. Are they good quality? Hope so since I'll more than likely just buy whatever backpack Alienware is gonna offer for the 18.

I have the 17" version now and like it a lot actually. It would be my primary backpack except that it does not have the space for text books I had to carry around during college. It is the best laptop carrying backpack I have ever had so far.

I agree, it may be snug at the top but the height and depth are fine, only the width is a concern.

I am giving my Orion as a perk with my M17x though and will be getting the updated one with the M18x

I'll believe that my M17x bag won't work only after I try it. Of course the Dell folks are going to say you NEED the new bag, it's their just to get you to buy stuff after all. ;)

    Per SlappaDom:

OK, it WILL also fit in the KIKEN bags--so you could go KIKEN, 18" Kampus, 18" Stovepipe or HardBody PRO cases (it fits but is tight)

Guys, just today I've received 6 mails/messages asking what SLAPPA models will fit this new Alienware m18x beast. [link removed]

In short it's the KIKEN 18" Custom Build Shoulder Bags, the 18" Kampus, the 18" Stovepipe and the 17" HardBody cases-but they are tight.

Maybe consider adding 1" to the Mask backpack? My M18x needs a home like that if possible :)

i'd be worried about carrying that much weight on on should for an extended period of time. suppose it's not bad if you're using to go to/from a car and desk though.

gonna be a backpack for me. thinkin i'll be gettin the Kampus. it looks fairly cool, and it's half as much as the orion.

edit: seems the kiken jedi is one of the bags they're offering in their gamer bundle. get the bag and "up to $30 off" a game when bundled

edit 2: will a m18x fit under the seat of a plane?

Yes, but it will be snug on smaller planes.

It also depends how much other stuff you cram in the bag. ;)

I updated my first message to keep a running list of the bags/sleeves people are testing. If you bought or are trying one, feel free to just post here and I can update my 1st message. Any corrections, please just post it here and I can update.

I'm looking for a good sleeve myself and thanks for everyone's suggestions.

Yeah, I've noticed a lot of backpacks are pretty big, but the laptop compartment is small. One reason for a better sleeve so you can have a larger pool of backpack choices.

I'd have to really question that "tsa compliant" description on the Alienware Orion bag. Tsa specifically demands that you remove your laptop from your bag, and stick it in the grey plastic bins. NEVER heard them make the announcement that anyone that has a tsa compliant Alienware bag, is exempt. Anyone that travels much, and owns at least an m17x, will tell you that it BARELY fits into the bins. The m18x, I'd gather, will not.

Either way, I cannot imagine the tsa nazi's allowing you to leave your laptop in your "tsa compliant" bag. They'll more than likely, after you tell them all about your brand new tsa compliant bag, tell you to remove the laptop from your tsa compliant bag.

Just my experience with these guys.

The backpack butterflies open showing the laptop in a compartment by itself. Thus the tsa compliance.

    From the TSA website:
TSA: TSA Ready for 'Checkpoint Friendly' Laptop Bags

From experience, you are still asked a lot to take it out of the bag so YMMV if you can keep it in the bag. I think as time goes on, I'd assume they will be more ok with these backpacks/bags.

So would this beast fit under the seat on an airplane? Or even between the armrests if you used it on your lap?

What's the weight limit on their folding try things? Lol, I feel like if you tried to set this thing on it it would break

Everki has a couple of 18.4" compliant models in the bag model types:
Sleeve Amazon.com: Everki Commute 18.4-Inch Laptop Sleeve with Memory Foam (EKF808S18): Electronics
I checked with Everki on this and they believe though a tiny bit narrow, it should stretch enough to fit the M18x.

Briefcase Amazon.com: Everki Advance Laptop Bag - Briefcase, Fits up to 18.4-Inch (EKB407NCH18): Office Products

Fancier brief Amazon.com: Everki Lunar Laptop Bag - Briefcase, Fits up to 18.4-Inch (EKB417BK18): Electronics

Added all 3 to the 1st message...None of them look super padded, but the Lunar looks nice to stick inside another bag...I may consider these as well as the others as a sleeve inside a backpack.
