The 7970M heat sink is definitely beefier than the 6990M heat sink.

Is it possible to order those heat sinks and fit them to the 6990's in a R1? Additional cooling should allow you to overclock even higher.

I am guessing that it may not require any modding. The 6990M heat sinks fit the 7970M GPU perfectly, they just are not nearly as bulky. They should cool the 6990M very effectively.

The 580M, 660M, 675M and 680M heat sinks are completely interchangeable also.

I would like to try it out. Go ahead and swap to the 3 pipe heat sink on the CPU while I'm at it. Know where I can purchase these? Wasn't there someone on the forums from Alienware we could contact?

Send an email to [email protected] and they will help you. That's how I got.mine... or simply call aw and ask to order the part... look up the part number on "m18x owner lounge" thread to ensure they send you the correct part.... it may take a while to ship but it beats every price I have seen on eBay....

Cool. Did you order the 3-pipe heat sink for your 2960XM also? That makes a big difference on my system.
