I bought an m18x R2 Yaay! But it seems like life doesn't only take my cookie it also punches me in the face and then asks if I want the cookie back, just to take it from me again and laugh. (check sig for explanation)

I have a super weird problem! the screen has very faint vertical lines running through some colors and especially some shades of gray.

    However:

VGA out = fine external screen (internal still showing lines)
HDMI out = fine external screen (internal still showing lines)
Screen on ps4 HDMI IN = fine internal screen
Other laptop on HDMI IN = fine internal screen

I dont understand OO how is this possible? LCD cable? but hdmi In goes through the same cable which is fine... right? AMD settings? but AMD is used for the fine external screens too which are fine.

    Ideas???

I have a feeling it's the screen cable maybe which is a bit funky... Have you tried moving the screen and seeing if this disappears?

Yes I moved it around. It is more visible from above or below but unfortunately still noticeable on eye level.

    I added some pictures

I think it is either the LVDS cable as Tom suggested or the SLI bridge. AMD had some issues with the connectors working loose and developing a weak connection, especially during shipping and rough handling. Remove the bezel and keyboard and check to make sure they are tight. They should have a piece of adhesive tape across the two metal halves of the connector to help avoid this. Each metal end should either touch or almost touch the socket on the GPU when it is fully seated. If you do not have any tape on the connectors, you can use Scotch tape. It could also be a bad SLI bridge cable.

I opened the system up completely. All the cables look fine. I even started the system up and went into bios while moving around the sli bridge cable a bit. Lines still visible (even in bios yes). The SLI bridge cable looks fine and was secured with scotch tape and a little bit of glue. Checked lvds connection on MB. Looks fine and so does the LVDS cable.

So I went to the next step. Tried to check LVDS connection/cable on LCD screen, but here comes the nightmare! The 2 screws which hold the back cover to the screen (between the hinges) were almost completely stripped... How in earth am I going to get them out?! They are secure as hell, I actually got some grip with my set of good tools, on the already bad looking 2 screws the first few tries with like 5x the amount of force I needed for the other screws to turn. They now have no grip at all anymore. Last 2 screws I needed to take out and it just decides to act like it's made of plastic. I took these screws out like 20 times on my M17xR3...

What now? I can't take off the back cover...

edit: also removed both sli bridge and LVDS cable and reseated them. Still not fixed
edit2: I just bought an SLI bridge cable. Hope it is that cable otherwise Im screwed (That Pun XD)
edit3: I am actually thinking of drilling the screws out TT that wouldnt be pretty.

Yeah these screws... BTW, make sure you buy a Crossfire cable and not a SLI one... You have AMD cards lol..

I had a similar problem to this where my also screen's colours were all distorted, but the only way I managed to get it off was that it went away with time.

I bought some super tiny screw extractors which can grip a stripped screw. So I might try that soon.

Ofcourse haha xd. I opened it up and just used the part number. Long wait now because I bought it cheap from China.

The colors look fine. It's just the lines running through some gray colors. It's not as bad anymore now that I calibrated the screen. Barely visible for people who know it's there.
