    Hello,

I've been having issues finding the right model to replace all fans on my Alienware M18xr2, especially that I read somewhere that the model number changed.
Can someone please help posting what models of the fans I need to get .

    Thank you

The model number does change, but the fans are mechanically identical and regardless of number, they will fit and work just the same.

P0DG8 XHW5W 0J77H4 These are the part numbers for the left gpu fan, right gpu fan and cpu fan.

M18xR2 CPU fan is not the same as M18xR1. It fits and works perfectly, but one is much higher CFM. Use the M18xR2 CPU fan in either M18xR1 or R2 as it is almost 3 times greater air moving capacity. (M18xR1 CPU fan is 4 CFM versus 11.7 CFM for the R2.) Do not accidentally buy the RTRGC fan even though it will work. The J77H4 fan is definitely the fan you want. I mention this because RTRGC is often sold as a CPU replacement fan for the M18xR1 or R2 without any mention of the lower CFM rating.

Doing my research about the best 5V fan there is, I still can't help but wonder how on earth they have different performance (CFM), while the design is pretty much same - thickness, size, blades (well the later might have couple of more, not enough to make such a difference). I'm at loss, unless one gets to higher RPM than the other.

I think it is higher RPM. I'd have to compare them to confirm it, but I believe that was the deal based on memory. It does cool better.

To be a truly higher RPM though it would have to be rated for more amps.

I think there is some rating fudging going on there ;)

I have both fans. The RPM max is a little higher as I recall, (and I believe I posted screen shots showing that a year or two ago,) you can feel more air volume coming out the back vent for the CPU, it is just a tad more audible and the improvement in temps is measurable... not huge, but installing the 11 CFM fan lowered my overclocked load temps around 3°C while benching with the fans maxed out.

So a tweak and a fudge then.
