M18xR1 GTX 680m SLI drivers not installing

I downloaded driver version 425.31 from Nvidia's site, modified the nvdmi.inf, and enabled test mode to bypass the driver signature. When I run the installer, it says "Nvidia graphics driver is not compatible with this version of Windows." I am running 1809 but I don't expect that to be the issue since this error didn't happen for other cards on other machines running the same version. This is a fresh install too.

The only other clue I have is that Device Manager has a warning on one of the cards but I assumed it's because the Windows basic driver can't handle SLI. The cards previously both worked in an R2. My next move I think is to pull the secondary and install for the single card before popping the second back in. I'd like to avoid disassembling this more than necessary though since some of the mobo headers have loose clamps and it's a huge pain getting it back together. Any other ideas?

 

I'd try actually disabling driver signature enforcement first, just in case that's all it is.

 

That's what Test Mode does. I'm doing the same steps that I did for a 980m and a 1070 on a pair of R2s.

 

So the card is being detected in Device Manager but it has an error code on it? Is it the Code 31?

The main reasons for the driver to fail are;
1. Driver Signature Enforcement
2. Driver not modded correctly
3. Hardware issue with Card
4. vBIOS issue with card
5. System set to iGFX in BIOS (device manager will only show the Intel graphics)

 

It is the error Code 31 yes.

 

All I can think is that the driver .inf isn't modded right. Since the driver you're installing has support for Windows 7, 8 and 10, did you add your Hardware ID line into all three OS sections of the .inf as well as do the String at the bottom of the file?

This isn't an issue with newer drivers as they only have Win10 support so there is only one large group of ID's instead of three

Let me know how you go or if my description above was confusing. I'm happy to help mod the .inf if you need but if you've done it for your other cards then it should be easy enough. you just need to copy and paste your ID into the other two big lists of ID's
