Hello everyone,
My trusty R1 threw me one last night. Just as I wanted to shut the machine down, I got a gray screen. Couldnt shut it down the proper way so used the power button. On start up after windows was attempting to start up the screen dlickered momentarily showing horizontal while and black lines followed by bsod.
The message om bsod reads" attempt to reset the display driver and recover from time out failed.
The stopcode 0x00000116.
After messing with it for most of the morning concluded either the driver or amd gpu s.I installed latest Amd drivers, but with similar results.
After i delete amd drivers in safe mode, the computer boots up fine with vga. At the moment I use laptop on internal intel gpu.
Is my gpu toast or could it be something else.
Up to now I have seen no e of the usual symptoms of a dying gpu. The cards are from 2011, were never overclocked, and were kept as cool as possible while gaming. Never went over 85 degrees.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Regards, Q

1. Boot safe mode, run DDU
2. Boot normal, install latest drivers
3. If BSOD continues, congrats, your gfx card is dead (primary). If you load a game and you get black screen, your secondary card is dead. -
Hi Raidriar,
Thanks for replying, will give it a shot when I get back tonight.
Will report back

Hi, ran DDU installed first an older driver that I knew worked to no avail, then latest amd driver, but still bsod. Afraid alt least. One GPU toast. Thank you for your help.
