About a year ago my toddler popped the TAB key off my keyboard. No idea where it went and it's really annoying looking at my old girl missing a part. It seems really hard to find replacement keyboards these days for this machine, at least the US layout one. Does anyone here have an old one laying around for a decent price (shipped to Australia)?
Also, the macro key backlight doesn't work anymore so I'd love to get my hands on another one of these but they are even harder to find.

As far as I know, the m17x r3/4 and m18 r1/2 all have the same keyboard, but I may be wrong.
Regarding the macro backlight, did you check the seating of the ribbon cable? Had that one time when I had disassembled it and reseated it, then it worked again.

Yeah I've reseated the cable a few times. The green works for a bit but then shuts off after a while. No other colors will work

Thanks but I'm really only after the US English keyboard. For some reason all the other country/language ones are readily available. There's a guy in the UK who sells individual keys so I may just have to fork out $10 for a single key.

I would have a genuine UK and a US keyboard of the m17x r4, both working just replaced them with German ones. I'm in Germany, so shipping down under may be quite expensive (+ customs on top, I think).

How much would the keyboard be? I can try to work out what the shipping may cost me. I'm thinking the $10 for a single key may be easier even though I hate the feeling of paying $10 for a single keyboard key!!

You could have the keyboard for 15€, checked shipping, is about 30€ DHL with insurance. That would be like 70 Aus. $$ I think (+ customs %??), assume that's too much for you?

Hey, thanks for having a look at that for me. I just got back from overseas and decided to go for the $10/single key route. It's not ideal but it keeps costs down as I'm now planning on selling the old girl and investing in a 1070 for my 17 project. It will be sad to see her go though. Maybe I can just sell my two 13's and the X51 instead.

Got my $10 TAB key from the UK. Worth every cent.

So my keyboard on my r2 is slowly dying. Most of the keys on the left side no longer work and I need a new keyboard. The only ones I can find online are the international keyboards, and was wondering if they will work in my US machine.

Yes. I am using the korean keyboard (which has US keys with korean keys in the bottom corner) and it works fine.

I believe Korean and Chinese language are the only ones left on eBay in new condition but there are US ones that are used.

    Can also check aliexpress

Thanks @ssj92 i always forget about aliexpress, unless is comes to cheap legos.

So doing a quick look, is it important that most of the vendors are mentioning a green cable on the keyboard? I thought all m18x keyboarda were universal.

Some have a green cable and some have blue. I’m not sure what the difference is. It’s strange how hard it is to find a US keyboard these days

    All M17x R3, M17x R4, M18x R1, and M18x R2 keyboards are interchangeable.

technically I have a "m17x R4" in my M18x R2. Only difference is we have the macro keys

The macro keys are a separate SKU anyway right?

Yeah completely separate. I need one because the RGB is faulty. It’s the only thing wrong with my R2

    Cheers
What do you mean by macro keys?
And another question is compatible with the keyboard of my old M17x R2 with that of my M18x R2?

There is a separate small macro keyboard strip next to the main keyboard on the M18x. There isn't one on the M17x. I don't think the keyboards are compatible with your model but I believe the M17x R1 and R2 keyboards are interchangeable but any newer machines have a different connector.

Nice, watch out for dead keys. I did this as a temp solution for my m18x and after a couple days a few of the bottom keys stopped working.
