I've heard there is a risk of bricking, I have NVCP open and am in Custom Resolution and am so tempted to try for 75Hz....someone talk me out of it.

GREAT SCOTT!
74 AND HOLDING STEADY.
IT MAKES 60 FPS FEEL LIKE 46 FPS!
74 is the limit though.
If youre going to attempt this hit escape if the display starts going wonky.
Pics attached.
WAY SMOOTHER. LOVE IT.
OCTICEPS YOU ARE THE MAN!
R2 with single 980M and 74Hz feels like an M18x R3!!!!

Trust me, it's way smoother than 60Hz. Highly recommended!Attached Files:

I was wondering where he ran off to....I knew him to be openly inflammatory sometimes but I don't know if that's what put the final nail in his coffin.

I got 75Hz!
Maybe it warmed up from being at 74Hz for so long, now I'm tempted to try for 90 lol.....
Nah, better exercise the precautionary principle.
Also, if youre going to try this, full disclosure, for the past two days when the unit was completely cold the display was exhibiting extremely erratic before, such as the bottom portion of the display being black etc, which goes away when the unit warms up. I don't know if it's temperature related, but what I am going to do from now on is revert the refresh rate to 60 before shutting down for the day and then wait until it warms up before turning it back up to 75Hz. -
I even got 81 Hz but I don't use it. Just did it for test. Im too scared that I'll kill the display

Update:
Update to my previous post here where I issued the warning about bizarre graphical oddities occurring when the display is cold. Setting it to 60Hz before shutting down and waiting an undetermined amount of time, usually say about 30 minutes or so maybe an hour to be safe after turning on eliminates this problem.
Some games run great at 75Hz, such as Doom 2016, other's such as GTA 5 exhibit stuttering over 60Hz, for whatever reason, and are best left capped at 60 FPS. -

Edit:
Oh and I forgot to add this to the initial post, go here to ensure youre refresh rate is legit, you might have to open the tab on it's own outside of other tabs in your browser etc.

I'm going to test this one out with Doom.Attached Files:

Update:
I noticed that the higher the refresh rate the more that the horizontal lines of pixels become visible. 85 Hz it's very noticeable, even at 80. 75 might be the sweet spot. I'm keeping it here. -
I have underclocked GPUs, not overclocked
Only overclocked thing is CPU. -
Not undervolting. Only seeing these temps because of the 15% refresh rate OC (Avg utilization would be 62%).
I.e. gta 5 temps don't exceed 75c. (Game doesnt run smooth above 60Hz).
This is in an unconditioned space, 73F if I had to guess, with the unit amply elevated and fans set to 3700rpm.
Not elevated and temps would be about 10 hotter.
If I run the fans full bore at 4200 RPM it runs a good 4c cooler but the noise is unbearable to me.
I have shin etsu thermal pads on the memory and gc extreme on the core. (Probably why the core gets so hot as all sharing same heatsink and that's some really conductive thermal pads).
Fan at 4200 RPM an temps don't exceed 77c with this oc. -
Constant 85C+ temperature is dangerous. Lower is fine.
-
Display overclocking is great. Mine has been running at 110HZ for more than 1.5 years now. It does bug out sometimes, but closing and reopening the lid fixes that.
-
This is with 1.062v.
If youre on 980M I would consider elevating the chassis a good 3" ensuring that the vents aren't obstructed in the process. You can get away with 1.062v. -
