    Hello,
6 Months ago i my alienware just stopped working, it turned off suddenly while in a game of league.
It wouldnt turn on, no power at all. Battery was fully charged (checked by the pressing the button on it)
and when charger was plugged in, the light on the charger turned off.
it was bought back in 2011-2012 so no warrenty.
I had it sitting around. Until my friend saw it, he works in it or something at our university, and said he can try fixing it.
He managed to have turn back on, by removing one of the GPU's guessing it was faulty? or shorting out something? i am not an expert :p
I thought it was not that bad, because i have Dual SLI gtx 560m (yeah old). So i could still decently use it with one GPU, but the GPU that is left in isnt being detected. The pc had alot of files, so i decided to clean it up.
I did a system restore to factory mode. Everything is clean. Did all the windows updates. Nothing else.

I checked Bios both cards were [Not Detected], only the integrated card works which is the Intel HD Graphics 3000
I tried Pressing the Fn+7 key. it says it will enable the gfx discrete card, i press yes and it restarts, but doesnt turn on anything. The intel card is still on and option in fn+7 is still the same, before a notification appeared when unplugged charger saying optimize performance turn off blah blah. Now it only appears when plugging the charger not unplugging but turn on.

I am not sure which card is left in the Primary or secondary.
but the one that was taken out has the Heatskin ID: AT0FM0030F0

The part list thread says 0TYGV N12E-GS GeForce GTX560m Left Heat Sink
Guessing that is the heatskin + gpu that is taken out. The barcode ID on the heatskin that is taken out is
    CN-00TYG-72744-181-0053-A00
So guessing its the left one?
Is the left one the Primary or Secondary?
I am thinking of getting a replacement gpu but i need to make sure that the other one works also. is there anyways to find out?

    Specs:
    Alienware M18x R1 A05
    Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz
    16GB DD3 Ram
Dual GTX 560M SLI 1.5 GPU

Can post more information if needed

He removed the primary GPU and left you with the secondary one, which makes your laptop unable to boot with the Nvidia cards. He needs to remove the secondary GPU from its heatsink and place it on the primary one, then put that one on the primary (left) slot. You can do whatever you want with the other GPU and heatsink, either place it on the secondary slot or leave it outside. Assuming the second GPU is still alive, it should get detected on the bios and turn on normally. Also don't forget to repaste the GPUs with thermal paste and switch the thermal pads when making the switch as I think the placement of the thermal pads varies depending on the heatsink.

By switching thermal pads I mean just to exchange the pads from right GPU to left GPU, but, oh well, new ones will work too.
