    Hi Guys,

I have a strange problem, and i have been trying it resolve it with the top guy who is Mr Fox.
Before i give up hope i was just wondering if anybody may be able to help me please.

I have a m18x r2 with a 7970M gpu installed, the fan tables seem really bad and are causing overheating. The GPU fan seems to come on at low RPM when it feels like it and doesn't sometimes come on at all upwards to 100 degrees C , obviously i shut the machine down before it gets to this.

I have flashed the bios with the modified one, but from my research on other posts it seems the EC controller is responsible for the fan tables, is there anyway i can flash this or somehow reset it ?

I can manually control the fans with HWmonitor, and it registers against the GPU temperature, but i don't want this as the only thing from frying the GPU.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Could it be something physical that is damaged here that i am just not seeing?

*update* very strange - i have a video from HWINFO showing the fans literally saying they are about to start then immediately stop (physically nothing happens, i have uploaded it to dropbox) this process keeps repeating itself. Could the card be at fault here?

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/46mz9jeh9lpfwx9/2017-01-29 11.06.26.mp4?dl=0

The CPU fan seems to start as it should , when it should. I have also replaced the fan with a spare i had but still no luck !
    Thanks all.

That sucks, sorry to say it but unless someone chimes in otherwise you may have to resort to manually just setting your fans to 3200, 3700 or 4200 RPM and that's the end of that.

Hi buddy - massive thanks to @Swick1981 it's his bios and only his bios that has resolved this issue, i have been through all the official ones and a couple from the Techinferno website. The fan tables are now working correctly, phew ! :)

6990M is just faulty card. It will fail whether you burn it or never overclock.

    Howdy All...
Sorry, but life has been a bit CRAZY for me and I've been unable to do much "FUN STUFF" with my PC's, etc...
ANYWAY... Others have TRIED to figure out the fan tables, and I cannot tell you why it works for some and not for others. It's REALLY ODD. In fact, @Raidriar helped go through a CRAP LOAD of lines of code (THOUSANDS probably TENS OF THOUSANDS, NO JOKE) and couldn't see ANY kind of issue. I'm sure we both probably missed it, but we really did go through them. At this point, you could always try just re-flashing the bios, again... that COULD fix it. REINSTALL windows so the DSDT tables can be "re-made" and MAYBE that'll fix problem, too... but I have 1 m18xR2 that it works on and 1 x m18xr2 that it's worked and not worked... LoL!
    Sorry for being uselesss!!!

I do believe everything is OK with the M18X R2 fan tables indeed. That's why you and @Raidriar have not found an issue... The problem is a faulty GPU. I had 7970M CF in the past and used to use an official Dell's BIOS only. Everything was OK with my fans with A10, A11 and A12 when both my AMD 7970M were young and healthy. But then they started to die and Compal EC started to glitch. I have seen that strange fans behaviour and insane temps by Compal EC just prior the final death of both GPUs. I have tried to bake them after that, they worked for a little time and died again. So, I baked them again. 3-4 times. And after all of this they died again. I've sold them both for $133 and re-invested that money in buying 980M and two 970M.
So, I suppose, if your GPU's current status is OK at the hardware level you should see no fans/temps Compal EC issue at all. Just IMHO.

Thanks! I've been UTTERLY CRAZY! Working a lot, had a couple deaths in the family, and so much more!
Thanks for the kind words! I've missed all ya'll, too! heh
BTW, as a side note. I am about 48 hours away from having a Windows 7 ULT 64-Bit with ALL updates (except the 2 that we KNOW are "bad"), auto activate (offline), and auto install SEVERAL programs that people generally use, like: Office 2013 Pro Plus (Auto Activated OFFLINE), MiniTool Partition, CPU-Z, GPU-Z, and MANY OTHER items. It's ALSO got ALL THE LATEST updates for M18XR2's, Clevo P870DM3's, and a few other machines... It was a project I am doing for a client of mine and I thought I'd share in the "spoils" with everyone else. I KNOW it took forever, but SEVERAL probs came up when integrating certain updates in the wrong order, etc...
BUT, I have MR FOX testing the mod and though there are a FEW issues, I believe I'm 1 - 2 days away from having it FINISHED!
But know there are a COUPLE (5 i think) updates I have not included for OBVIOUS reasons, and ONLY 1 update that you will have to do - it can't be done because it'll lock up the install of Windows, but it's a 9.1MB update that you can do yourself as it's VERY quick!)
Oh, the sound drivers will be included and they are FULLY WORKING (I mean completely) but the file used is from an older version of REALTEK's drivers to give you the FULL support you'd probably like. J95 is working on a SWEET update, but I promised I wouldn't release that. But, I wanted to let ya'll know this is similar to his version, but using a MUCH OLDER dll cause that's the version I've been using and everyone else has for EVER! Now, thanks to J95, we may get a FULL BLOWN REALTEK audio driver and software that does EVERYTHING we want, and more! heh :)
Anyway, if you're interested in testing, PLEASE let me know... I could use the help!
Idiots like me should NOT apply for testing... Cause we generally SCREW things up! But everyone else is welcome! ha!
Hope ya'll are doing well! I really have missed ya!

That doesn't make sense. The M18x R2 sound chip codec is made by creative, not realtek. Specificaly Creative SoundBlaster Recon 3di
