    Guys,

Has anyone upgraded their R1 and had issues with resume from sleep being completely not an option. Everytime like clockwork using 12.7B and 12.8 Catalyst drivers when I close the lid on my laptop and it goes to sleep it's game over. It acts like it wants to wake up and then boom hard freeze you actually have to power cycle the machine.

It would seem the cards themselfs are ok, I mean furmark didn't kill them and they seem to run games as well as I think they should, is this just the standard AMD curse of bad drivers, or did I get a pair of dud cards?

I appologize if this has been answered elsewhere but I didn't see it when I searched both on google and on the forums here.

Thanks for any guidance you may have.

    Hey there ligithin,

I can confirm that I have the same issue with sleep.
When the notebook enters sleep mode, I can't bring it back out. It will just stay on the black screen and so I will have to hold the power button down to turn it off and then turn it back on again. It sure can be annoying however luckily I don't usually use the sleep feature. It just happens when I forget I'm running on battery lol.

I have since altered my power settings so it never enters sleep mode anymore.

    Cheers. :)

    Reborn,

Well it's both terrible and good to hear that I'm not the only one that has this issue, I wonder if its something with the R1 motherboards or with AMD's lackluster drivers. Following your recommendation as far as the power plan goes, I changed sleep to shutdown when the lid is closed or the power button is pushed, since sleep is uselss, this sort of fixes the issue for the time being. While not the optimal effect, I suppose its better than a manual shutdown or forgetting and gettting frozen out of windows.

Least now I can rest knowing I've done all I can to resolve the issue, including transplant both cards between 2 laptops (both R1's) and even reloaded the OS.

    Thanks for the reply!

    Hey no worries ligithin,

Yeh its not exactly a fix but the best we can do for now I'd say. Also I highly doubt that it is a driver issue. The only way the sleep issue will be fixed is through a vbios update or fix. Which unfortunately for us is pretty much out of the question.

    Cheers. :)

This is nothing new. The M17x R2 with 5870M CF had issues resuming from sleep and they were never resolved. Some M18x R1 users with 6970M/6990M had issues resuming from sleep. It did seem to get better or worse with different driver versions. A few users with 580M SLI had a similar problem depending on the driver version.

Go into your power profile under PCI Express and turn off Link State Power Management and see if that helps. It has helped some (not all) work around this.

    Mr. Fox,

As always thanks for the input, however it didn't seem to affect the issue. I kind of figured there would be some small draw back to upgrading the R1 vs Buying an R2. Who knows maybe ill pick up a single 660m R2 and port my cards over to it, I managed to get them from my company as part of my yearly bonus so it would save me some serious ching when specing an R2 and correct me if I'm wrong the cards are the better of either 90 days on the warranty or the system they are installed in am I right? Least thats what the order said 90 days or remainder of system contract. And since my R1 has well over a year and a half left I should be straight either way I think.

Once again thanks for all help guys this really is a great community.

WHYYYYYYYYY was this thread dropped. This crap needs to be resolved. One thing to mention is that not only does it NOT resume from sleep, but I also cannot switch to integrated with FN+F7. Dialog box comes up, I say yes, it restarts but on dedicated again. I can force it however in the unlocked bios by switching graphics to IGFX and saving, then it loads on Intel HD. While on integrated it resumes sleeps just fine. Switching FROM integrated by FN+F7 works fine as well, it restarts to the 7970 but to go back I have use the bios settings. Anyone else having these issues? I use Intel for streaming wireless TV and actually use the sleep function all the time so both of these issue are EXTREMELY annoying but can't seem to find any information on them. Tried everything, clean install, different drivers (cant seem to be able to install the ones from dell), different card (6970m works as it should), different setting, nothing :(
