    Hi,

I recently purchased an Alienware M18X with Nvidia 460M video cards. I presently have the Dell video driver installed which is version 267.64. Nvidia have made available a more recent version of their driver (275.33) which I have downloaded. However when I try to install this driver it claims that I don't have compatible hardware.

From what I've gathered reading around the subject it seems that Dell attempt to prevent users from installing drivers directly from Nvidia. It appears that there was a tool available to inject the new driver in to an older Dell driver package to facilitate installation but it doesn't work with the M18x/460M.

    1. Does anyone know how to go about updating the Nvidia drivers on the M18x?

    2. Am I really at the mercy of Dell deciding to update their drivers (which are already three months out of date)?

I have to admit I find it utterly absurd that a machine sold principally for gaming has video card driver updates locked down.

I really hope someone can help....

    Have you tried laptopvideo2go?

They do modded .inf files for drivers that allow you to install them on a variety of systems that don't usually work with verde drivers.

I had to use that site exclusively for gpu drivers when I had my m1730 until the verde programme was initiated and got some steam.

If you have a solo 460M, then the laptopvideo2go will work. If you have an SLI setup, then it won't. It won't let you use SLI but somehow only 1 GPU.

Then it seems you'll have to sit tight till they get worked into the verde drivers, unless someone else has a magical answer. Hopefully, the next official release.
