    Hi Guys,

I would like someone's insight into my next Alienware machine,

I previously had 2 M17X R2's and sold my Alienware 14 few months ago.

I have always been interested in the M18X R2 due to the build quality and the performance.

Is this spec worth the money and is it still relevant in performance terms? Or am I just better off buying a refurb or new one from Dell?

    CPU i7 3920XM
    GPU 980m 8gb ram
    16 GB ram
    256 SSD
    1T hard drive
    Blue Ray Drive
    Windows 8.1
    Custom Painted Nvidia Green.

    £1400?

Concerns are that the 980m doesn't run properly in the m18x? is this correct?

    Any help would be appreciated

If you were to buy all the parts and get the laptop painted that is probably about the price you will be looking at, but for a second hand laptop.... I dunno seems a little bit steep, for me at least. I am assuming that that it is a single 980m and not sli.... if it is sli then that is a good deal.

In terms of performance it is definitely relevant, especially if you want to start overclocking the 3920xm, its no longer the fastest mobile gpu but is still up there. And the 980m speaks for itself being the fastest mobile gpu money can buy.

As for wether you should go for the refurb/new laptop, that depends what is important to you and what it is up against, I am sure you can find something with equal performance, not sure about build quality. it may cost a little more but you have the security of a laptop under warranty etc. The Alienware 18 is now worth considering as the 980m's work perfectly in it...

A single 980m performs very well in the M18x r2 both stock and overclocked, you are still stuck with a few things like uefi booting/windows 8.1, driver modding and removing the graphics card if you want to reset the bios by unplugging the cmos battery. (if it is actually 980m sli not a single card then performance is still good so long as you don't overclock, hopefully that will change in the future)

I hope that answers some questions even if I cant straight say yes or no... I personally would definitely consider it, but try to get 100-200 of the price, but that's me.
