On my new Alienware 18 I was having a lock up issue (computer would freeze then restart) if I wasn't plugged into charger. Uninstalled this program and everything works fine now. Anyone have issues with this software? What is it doing that would cause this when not plugged into charger? Kinda weird.

Looks like I'm back at square one..just locked up again AFTER the software had been uninstalled. Anyone have any suggestions? Seems to lockup within about 5 minutes of running on the battery, otherwise works fine when plugged in.

I'm starting to think it has to do with some device entering a power saver mode when on battery?

A few possibilities with this problem. CPU settings might be messed up. Does it happen when web browsing, or just with the machine setting idle? It could also be a GPU driver issue. If you're using the latest drivers from NVIDIA, they're all screwed up. If the GPUs are trying to run in 3D mode on battery, that can cause lockups. The battery does produce enough power for that. Try switching to Intel HD Graphics and see if the problem goes away. If it does, thank NVIDIA for their sucky drivers and try a different version to see if that helps.

Have you tinkered at all with the clock speeds with XTU? A lot of people have had problems when they did, and others had similar freezes without any tinkering. The stock BIOS settings are sometimes screwed up. Using adaptive voltage and a negative offset that is too high can cause it, among other things. Go into the BIOS and lower all of your multipliers by one and see if the problem changes. If doing that stops the freezing, or makes it worse, you need to tweak the voltage settings up or down. If lowering the multipliers helps, the voltage is too low. If it makes it worse, the voltage may be too high.

There were quite a few people that had what sounds like similar fits with freezing last year. Check with @cedargreen and see if he ever figured out how to resolve the freezing issues on his system. I don't remember if his problem was on battery, plugged in, or both.

As always, thanks Fox! Looks like it is a gpu driver issue as I can run on the Intel graphics with no problems on battery. I also did a little forum searching and noticed someone with the same exact issue though he chooses to just run on Intel graphics if he is on battery for the time-being.

All that being said, any specific driver version you recommend? Thanks again for all your help!

Reverted back display drivers to 359.06 and has been working for a solid 30 minutes on battery. Thanks everyone for your help!

Nvidia needs to get it's act together..stuff like this is unacceptable! The reason I always went with Nvidia in the past is because of their driver support, which is now unfortunately the thing that is killing them!

It's funny really. AMD drivers have been better than nVidia for the past 1.5 years or so.

Last thing..I've noticed my two 980m's have separate BIOS versions..one is 84.04.85.00.0A and the other is 84.04.85.00.0D...will this cause any issues? Where can I get/find the latest vbios versions?

But its quet ****ty problem, because i cant use laptop without charger and all time after 1 min he freez and reset (((

I hate Alienware's when they start make new Viking models with puur quality and plastic case(((

Doctor, I highly recommend going down to version 359.06..it's working great for me now and no lockups/freezes/restarts when on battery.
