i can't seem to find the startup folder after installing windows 10. I have to now manually start hwinfo, aida64, and Intel xtu

Why are you doing it that way? HWiNFO64 and AIDA64 both include an "auto start" setting that creates a Windows Task for you. Just go into the program options and enable it. There is no reason to put shortcuts in a Windows 95 style startup folder. XTU is not designed to always run at startup. If you need it launch to reapply your overclock settings because of the 18's messed up system BIOS, you're better off using ThrottleStop for that.

negative, even after adding them to the startup menu they do not appear in the taskbar (yes all icons are on). Intel XTU does startup and is functional. I have to double click on aida64 and newest version of hwinfo64 beta and regular. i have to double click them for them to start up. I also went in unchecked startup with windows ect, and re checked it to see if that worked..still no luck

Ah, I see... sounds like Windows 10 is still as screwed up as when I was playing with it, but I am surprised it is still so messed up. I quit farting around with it a while back and I was pretty unimpressed with it earlier in the Preview program.

Are they running the the background without visible system tray icons, or not running at all?

If not running at all, just create a Windows Task for them and that should take care of it. Or, did they remove that feature from Windows 10 as well?

If they are running in the background without system tray icons, try using the tray cleanup utility that @unclewebb provides a link to in his ThrottleStop documentation. That works really well.

I downloaded the newest AIDA64 Extreme Beta version which came out this month and now it is starting up in the taskbar and my sensor panel is also showing up. Intel XTU is working fine, in fact i even was able to up the mulitpliers and didn't get a BSOD for a couple of benchmarks I ran. Weird I know. HWINFO won't run for me. I did add it to the start menu folder ect., but no luck , its also not running in the backround, i know definitley because i have my fans ramped all the way up so I know exactly when it starts loading. if you know how to add it to windows 10, id try it out your way and see if it works.

Don't use the Startup folder method if you can avoid it. Create a Windows Task and set it to run at user logon. That's what HWiNFO64 does when you check the box to Auto Start, but maybe Windows 10 is blocking or disabling the Task. Look in the Task folder and if there is no HWiNFO64 task, create one. If it is already there and disabled, just re-enable it. You may need to disable the UAC cancer to get some things to work right. It was bad enough with Vista and W7, got much worse with W8, so I am guessing W10 will be the worst UAC abortion yet.

hwinfo.bmp.JPG i was able to create a task under task scheduler, i basically copied exactly the same settings that my aida64 extreme created. Anyone using AIDA64 with a sensor panel, download the newest beta version of AIDA64, it has worked perfectly for me under windows 10 , the current stable version was causing me all sorts of issues with my sensor panel loading and not loading ect. So i created the task and HWINFO64 now loads with windows. Here is the problem. I have to manually right click then click on the little fan icon to cause the fan page to open, once it opens the fans automatically fire up to my preset settings and it works normally from then on. I have no idea why I have to click on the little fan to get things going. the temp settings and fan speeds all are saved and are still there. hopefully its just a bug for windows 10 and we will get a update soon.
You can see in hte photo how it is setting up tasks ect in windows 10 above.

OK, its now working. follow the instructions i posted above and create a task. then as Mr. Fox said you have to turn off that god awful UAC or whatever its called. However its not enough to just slide the slider down to off. you have to go into regedit and do the following

run regedit and locate this key
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MicrosoftWindows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

In the right panel look for EnableLUA and change its value from 1 to 0. Close Regedit and restart windows. it should hopefully work for you now like it does for me.

I don't know about you but hwinfo loads fine for me at start up.

I have the auto start checked and using the latest version.

Hwinfo loads fine for me at startup as well, the problem is the fans don't fire up like they used to under windows 7.

Hwinfo is in my taskbar, i have to click on it, click on sensors , then i have to click on the small fan icon a the bottome of the sensor status screen. This causes my fan profiles to open up and immediately the fans turn on to what they are supposed to be set at. I can't figure out why its nto working. I have EC disabled in the options, should i renable it?

Oh that's easy: open up hwinfo64.ini and at the end of the file type in:

    OpenFanCrtlMin=1

Save the file and restart to take affect. your fans should spin up once hwinfo has started.

I thought XTU had to be ran in order for the overclock to work so i added it to startup. I would love to use throttle stop, and have your tutorial printed out, but we are running different speeds ect, and I really dont know what settings im supposted to set..

Haha sometimes I forget to do that myself when I do a fresh OS install.

for some strange reason, or by design, the custom fan tables will only take affect when that pop is open. what the bit i mentioned does is just open up the pop up but minimizes them to the task bar so they're not in your way.

why this isn't already in the INI file is beyond me.

well i spoke to soon . lol. its still not loading automatically with windows 10. The only way around it i was able to do was add "theghosts" code to the Hwinfo.ini file and then pin Hwinfo to the taskbar. so now when the computer starts i just have to click on the icon and the fans fire up . STill a pain in the butt , but not soo bad i guess. thanks again for everyones help.

Hwinfo is a fresh I stall. In fact like 3 times fresh installs . Including me going into the registry and deleting hwinfo references.

I also would like hwinfo to load first but haven't figured out how to that yet with windows 10.

Other then that I think I'm enjoying windows 10 so far.

Also when you unzip hwinfo only two files show up . The exe file and the ini file. It doesn't even give me the option under control panel uninstall to uninstall it

Well, who knows since you are using a beta OS designed by people that think they know what is best for everyone, think that means the same thing for everyone, and have proven they do not like enthusiast PC tweakers and tuners. Maybe after Windows OS X is released to the public the developer of HWiNFO64 will burn a few more calories making it work right. Right now, there isn't any sense of urgency for it to work correctly with a beta OS.

sorry im trying to bump this back up top so some of the top guys can see it, i posted my settings, maybe i just have something set wrong and thats why its not working. I did go through all of the bookmarks I have saved, that Mr. fox and the rest of you guys posted, however the versions of those programs are all outdated, so there are new options ect.

Since alienware abandoned us, some of us unfortunately are relying on you guys to help us move along updating our laptops. lol. It is much appreciated though and you all deserve credit.

finally its fixed!!!...on hte first tab i had to uncheck "show system summary on start up" then hit ok., go back into hwinfoand uncheck autostart. then click ok again. then open up hwinfo again and reclick autostart again and bamm.. its working just like it always has.

now before i did that, i went into the windows 10 task manager and set up a hwinfo task to run at startup. While that may not have had to do with fixing the issue, you can choose to have your fans fire up first before everything else if you choose to by making it load first when windows starts.. thank you to everyone for the help.
