I hear Mr. Fox say that the stock vBIOS sucks when it comes to performance.

So how do I go on about flashing the vBIOS? I hope this doesn't require me to take out the cards and do one at a time.

Can you please post step by step instructions along with the vBIOS file that I need?

    Refer to

    http://forum.techinferno.com/nvidia-video-cards/2166-[guide]-nvidia-vbios-flashing.html

Find the vBios you like here

    http://forum.techinferno.com/genera...-editions-modified-clocks-voltage-tweaks.html

If done properly it is an easy job that has amazing benefits; but still I ain't responsible for any damage your hardware may sustain due to an improper one :D

Before flashing my GPU it was around 8500 3Dmark11 stock and after flashing I am doing 8900 stock and overclocked as in the sig.

Also, you gain full control of your GPU which is awesome as I am now running a nice -25 mV undervolt that makes that baby run super cool

Removing the cards and doing them one at a time was only required for folks running Windows 8.X.X in pure UEFI mode to try and accommodate 980M SLI idiosyncrasies. That was because there was no version of NVFLASH that would work in pure UEFI mode. Legacy BIOS or UEFI with Legacy Option ROM/CSM was required and 980M refuses to POST that way in the Alienware 18/M18xR2. As long as you are not running in pure UEFI mode it will be easy. There is a new UEFI-friendly version of NVFLASH that should work if you are.

The first link @MahmoudDewy posted is an easy step-by-step that svl7 posted for the uninitiated. If you get stuck or have questions after reading that, let me know and we will get you fixed up.

Tip: replace [index] in his example with 0 for the primary GPU and 1 for the secondary GPU. In other words, NVFLASH -i0 -6 vbiosname.rom for the primary and NVFLASH i1 -6 vbiosname.rom for the secondary.

Mr. Fox, I have actually been wanting to reach out to you regarding flashing the vbios. I will be honest and say that the techinferno thread that is always referenced is confusing to me as well which is why for the last month I haven't flashed mine either. And as usual, it gets more complicated because we end up getting another reference to an NVIDIA flash method. At this pint I don't even know if I'm supposed to be trying to figure out how to do it using the techinferno guide or something with NVIDIA flash.

It's very frustrating because I am pretty good with computers, to the point that I have to be tech support for everyone I personally know. I just never messed with these types of things and the guide just isn't real clear to me. Not clear enough for someone who has never done it and could brick their machine.

Anyway, I just wanted to chime in let you guys know that that more than one of us is having a hard time wrapping their head around that guide. I would be willing to pay someone to put together a more dumbed down , complete step by step guide. As it stands now, if the new "fix" that's is coming doesn't change things, I will probably just end up selling my AW.

+1, I share the same opinion, I'm good with computers generally but I'm scared to mess with these things as one small mistake and you could brick your GPU

Thanks alot for these instructions bro! you are a savior to these forums!

    Flash both cards successfully

Just Benchmarked 3DMark and I got 150 points extra due to the stock GPU clock increase to 850 MHz up from the previous 771 MHz :)

the only annoying thing, is I'm not on UEFI boot, every reboot I get a black screen saying the BIOS is by techno inferno bla bla bla :(

When I switch back to UEFI mode then it doesn't show but I am going back to Windows 7 tomorrow so this is annoying

Awesome. Glad it was so easy. I appreciate the compliment.

That HWDIAG splash screen it there to keep people from "stealing" the modded vBIOS and redistributing them as their own. If they try to remove that label with a hex editor and then flash the vBIOS it will brick their GPU to teach them a lesson about stealing and lying, LOL. I think it's pretty slick and don't mind seeing the splash screen. If I were in @svl7 and @johnksss shoes and had people doing that I think it would do the same thing.

Not to hijack your thread, I flashed using the above. Loving the extra bit of performance. I can hit +150MHz now for consistent 60fps on Ultra on Witcher 3 at 2560x

    Thanks for the thread haha
