I was messing with my crossfire cards since I wanted to see if Flight Simulator would work better without crossfire. (Which it does, 20fps compared to 15 - still a pathetic result though).
However now I got a "Crossfire technology" message at the top right corner of my screen whenever I play any game.

    How can I disable this?

    Cheers

Go to CCC and click options or preference then enable tray icon. Having done that, right click the CCC tray icon and find the crossfire sub-menu. Should be obvious from there. Sorry for the vague descriptions; mine's away at depot..

There is an on-screen indicator for both SLI and CrossFire that needs to be turned off in the driver. There is one for PhysX as well on SLI systems. These are kind of silly features unless you are trying to confirm both GPUs are being used, but for normal use purposes they can be very annoying almost like adware pop-ups. The only CrossFire system I own any more is the M17xR2 and it is in Texas with one of my sons now, so I can't give you a screen shot or anything. What sponge_gto mentioned should help you find and disable that.

Here are some step-by-step instructions on how to disable the AMD CrossfireX™ Status Icon overlay of the Catalyst Driver:

    1. Look if you have the Catalyst Control Center Tray icon (it looks like a tiny red ball surrounded by tinyer greyish balls and when you move your mouse over it it will say " Color:..." and list color depth, resolution an whether the screen is set to landscape or portrait) active (it should be at the bottom right of the screen in Windows 7 and earlier, not sure about Windows 8 or 8.1 since I don't have that installed). It may be hidden from view, if you can't see it, click on the little up arrow left of the system tray area and search for it in it's window.

    2. If you found the tray icon, go to step 10., else continue with step 3..

    3. If the tray icon isn't there, right-click on your Desktop Background.

    4. Click on AMD Catalyst Control Center on the menu that comes up (if it doesn't you'll have to start CCC from the icon in your start menu).

    5. In AMD Catalyst Control Center (short: CCC), click on the Preferences button (top-right corner of the CCC window, underneath the (-) and (x) buttons.

    6. A menu will pop down. Search for Enable System Tray Menu and click on it.

    7. There should now be a checkmark next to Enable System Tray Menu.

    8. Close AMD Catalyst Control Center by clicking on the (x) button in the top-right corner of the CCC Window.

    9. Go back to step 1..

    10. Right-click on the Catalyst Control Center System Tray Icon.

    11. A popup should appear that shows what looks like a Bunch of numbered AMD Radeon "display adapters" (it's one for each possible display thus the list usually contains more entries than actual physical cards).

    12. Hover the mouse over the one marked with 1. .

    13. A new sub-menu should pop up to the right.

    14. Hover your mouse over AMD CrossfireX™ Settings.

    15. A new sub-menu should pop up.

    16. There should be an option called Show AMD CrossfireX™ Status Icon (where applicable), if not, repeat step 12. with the next display adapter in the list.

    17. Click on AMD CrossfireX™ Status Icon (where applicable).

    18. The checkmark should no longer be there and the AMD CrossfireX™ Status Icon overlay should no longer be visible in your 3D software/game (you will have to restart the software/game for it to go away in case you have done this while a game was running).

Note that you can follow the same steps to re-enable the AMD CrossfireX™ Status Icon overlay to test if CrossfireX is running in your game.

    Hopefully that will help.

PS.: In addition to the CrossfireX overlay from CCC, there is also a separate overlay indicator for it in various versions of RadeonPro that vary in appearance according to version. So if the above steps don't work and you have RadeonPro installed, it may be that that feature is enabled in RadeonPro.

If you encounter the same annoyance with NVIDIA cards, you remove the check marks in the NVCP menu as show here.
