I inadvertedly spilled about 150 to 200 ml of vodka 7UP on my laptop. Most went onto the floor but some went into the keyboard. I shut it off right away an unplugged it and wiped as much as I could. When holding it vertical, some would leak out the side. Put it in front of a fan for a few hours.

Now, thankfully I have accidental coverage. The Dell guys told me to keep it shut and to send it to their repair shop (still waiting for the shipping label). The 1st guy said not to turn it on cause it would void the warranty while the second guy said I can do it as many times as I want and they would replace whatever is needed. I would go with what he said since the confirmation email I received asked I turn it on to back up my info (I also recorded the 2nd call). Any risk?

Also, they would just replace the parts right? I dont want one of the new Alienwares, just replace the parts.

    Thoughts?

The new 18 has been announced so odds are they will just replace the parts. It seems like you have it under control though with dell saying they will fix it. Unless you really need something I would keep it off. If you really need something and still don't want to power it on, try yanking out the hdd and getting files off it that way with a different computer. Personally I would not worry bc they said they would take care of it.

If you haven't already done so pull the battery connection. Battery connection and wet PC equals short. Take out your hdd, unless you don't mind it getting accidentally erased and don't send it in, also do not send in your AC power supply. You'd be amazed how many times your power cord, hdd get missed placed. The same is true for anything you've put into the PC. Send it back with a note taped to the keyboard detailing exactly what's wrong with it. Take pics of your PC, detailing any damage scratched etc.. You want it back exactly how you sent it. Also, deep breath time, do not be surprised if it can't be fixed if Dell wants to replace it with the new crap they have now. Just because they announced new AW18 pcs does not mean they have parts in stock. If 18 cannot be fixed demand a new 18, do not settle for a new 17, even if they want to through in that ampifer thing. Speak with supervisor to get what you want.
