Hey guys....got a couple quick questions.

While working on a friends hard drive i was putting mine back together and i noticed center fan was a bit dusty. Ive cleaned before so wasnt a big deal so i thought.

I took fan out and went to our air compressors to get the dust off. We have air water seperators but i didnt check like a dummy. So i blew a quick blast of air/water onto the fan!!! I immediately turned it off and ran and grabbed a plastic bag...put rice and a paper towel in it....sealed it up and put in the sun.

Well ive checked now and i see it drew some moisture out...im gonna let it sit a while longer but do you rhinks its safe to test in the alienware or with some sort of external battery? I have a multimeter but dont know what to search for. Also i dont mind buying new but i am stuck on a boat. So it will be a while before i can get access. We keep it at 65 degrees on my deck so im wondering if i could safely run with 1 fan?

Thanks for any help...and i already know im a dummy hahah

Nah, you're not a dummy. That could happen to anyone. Simple human mistake.

At least it's only on the fan that got wet and not all over the motherboard. This probably won't be a problem in any way. Take it out of the bag and let it air out a few hours and you should be good to go.

Black, but that's the only certainty. Voltage's usually red, but yellow's possible. And you can use 9V for a little while, but the fan's rated for 5V; it'll go ape. Don't think that'll make it run though; Dell fans are usually pwm controlled (4 or 5 wires). Need to have 3.3V or 5V on the pwm wire as well, only with resistor inbetween; very little amps required or desired.

Should be fine to put it back in now. I wouldn't be worried.

a sugestion for next time, if you have WD-40 at hand, it can help. It is not conductive nor capacitive and WD stand for Water Displacer (Formula 40)
