I'm Creating this thread with the hopes that we will see some serious interest in getting a Group Buy set up.

LARGE Possibilities of discount on High End Hardware.

I need to know who is Serious about getting involved. This may take some time and the Seller I have contacted is willing to work on this and see what the possibilities of this could be in discounts.
NOTHING IS SET IN STONE AT THIS MOMENT.

"I will leave it up to the seller to reveal himself if things do start to get serious and real so that he is left in private without people bugging him for prices all the time. He does this kind of stuff for a living by my understanding and there is no need on putting pressure on him."

So without anymore waiting lets get this going.

6 Total Items to choose from and we will be getting everything added up as we go and once we start hitting good numbers we will discuss Target Prices to hit for the best deals. Hopefully soon we will have a figure to show to this Seller and explain that it will change as time goes by until we come to a close.

    Nvidia Gpu's
    1: Dell GTX 880m
    2: Dell GTX 780m

    i7 Extreme CPU's
    Ivy Bridge
    1: OEM i7 3920XM
    2: OEM i7 3940XM
    Haswell
    1: OEM i7 4930MX
    2: OEM i7 4940MX

-Please Note if items don't get picked and we don't see any interest in them, they will be removed.

So if you are interested in participating, please respond with what you want and we will start adding up and I will update below this post with current amounts and which items for each member every day.

And as said previously in the Vendor thread, We don't know if this is against the rules or if this has been attempted on here, In advance to the Admins. If it is against the rules or you are not ok with this I apologize in advance and please let us know.

By the way this is a TEST RUN, If this works out well and with minimal issues, this may become something more in the future for people to get a chance to get the latest items for excellent prices.

This type of thing is done alot with other communities and it might be about time to see it happen in the mobility community here. Maybe even have a Vendor Specific Thread even put into the marketplace in the future. (just an idea)

I am not going to take complete credit for this idea. A few members expressed interest in this happening and I want to give it a push to see if this ends up being a great thing for the community.

    Note:
Also if anyone has any connections to other vendors please contact me and we can add them into the bidding so we have a better chance of getting better prices. And please don't post it just in case they want their privacy during this.

UPDATE: We are now having discussions about the Target Price. All that have participated please put your input on what you think is reasonable for the amount we have and we will go from there. Thank you.

You can chalk me up there for 2 780m's or 880m's. The price difference between the two will be the deciding factor on which cards I go with. If we're talking $50'ish difference, 880m's for sure, if the difference is a whole lot more, I'll grab 780m's. Please and THANK YOU!

Don't want to clog up the thread since I am not currently in the market for any of these specific items, but I am in favour of this and would definitely support it. It's obviously limited to parts for a specific model, but it would be great to see this for other items as well, even things like SSDs or high end ram.

I completely agree, hence why we start with heavy artillery first and then if that goes well we can start looking at the possibilities with other items. But I don't want this to be limited to just a specific model, this is to be open to anyone that can use the parts, it just so happened this landed in the M18x thread and we haven't moved anything to the other threads, which is completely up to the Mods if they want to pin this for more people to see it.

Its ok, don't worry about time, This is a Initial Test Run, if this goes thru it won't be till we have all had our word on the target price and I want the order to have atleast 30-40 video cards and around 15-20 cpu's before we even attempt throwing an order at the seller. The more in the order, the more likely we are to have a larger discount. Plus the Seller needs to confirm if he has stock of this or if he has to gather more stock to fulfill the order. This whole process could take a few weeks or even a month or 2 depending on the volume we get and how long it takes to agree on a price and then how long it takes for the seller to send us all the product.

Unfortunately no. This is actually from a actual seller for the group buy. So you would have to buy out right, I personally wouldn't sell them right now if I were you just yet mainly because this is still in the phase of figuring out if this will actually happen or not.

Alright looking good so far, I have the current totals up, hopefully we can have this little experiment completed by the end of this month(if not we can always push it back further) and I plan to start talking Target Price in about a week or so and then we go from there and see how things pan out.

Also looking at it, there isn't not much interest in the 3920xm or the 4940mx, So I might end up pulling those 2 out of the list if we don't get much more interest in them.

I added a Poll for people involved with this Group Buy to determine if we should include the 3920xm and 4940mx. Please vote so we can tell if its a good idea to keep those on and just work it into the deal or to drop them and go with the others.

I've got questions about the whole process. Is everyone getting the parts directly from Dell? Therefore the items are under warranty (thinking about a 880m for my AW17)? Sorry if the questions doesn't fit here.

There is a chance nobody will get anything. Almost every response was contingent on price. Since I already have 780M, I won't buy 880M unless the discount is so stinking huge that only a moron would allow it to slip by. The seller will need to make a reasonable profit, of course, so it may all come down to how cheap the seller can acquire them.

Nothing is coming from Alienware and nothing would be included under the factory warranty (all would be aftermarket upgrades).

Like What Mr. Fox said. This is only for people that want to upgrade on their own dollar. My understanding is that the warranty is based on either 30 or 90 days and will not have a actual dell warranty just a warranty from the seller if the parts don't work. The discount I'm hoping to see is atleast 30-40% off what they normally price, basically barely above wholesale price. And he is right there is a chance nobody will get anything and this just ends being a neat little experiment for us to use as a learning curve for the future.

All that have so far been involved with this little experiment please put in your thoughts of what each part should cost.

List what you think the prices should per item and we will average it out and see what we come up with and if everyone is satisfied we will hand it over to the seller and see what he thinks and if its doable.

I've seen some new 780ms selling on ebay for 499, so something less then that, say 400 or so, even less would be better of course. 880ms I'd say between 5 and 600, less is better of course.

Im willing to put down cash right now, if we have a forum moderator as mediator to hold the cash for a large buy. If possible. Price is not too much an issue. If its cheaper then ebay Im in.

Hey everyone. Ok I think you can toss the 4940MX. I am the only one that is interested in one,but a 4930MX will do me just fine. I have seen them on ebay for the 700 range, new and used. It is hard to say what the price should be,because I dont know what the sellers cost is. I think that 30 to 40% off sound good. If I can get it cheaper than ebay than Im in.

I think this is a really good idea. I wish we had a lot more people interested. The more people the more pushing power we would have. Thanks

3940XM typically goes for between $400-500 on eBay. Cheapest I've seen was $350 but of course it was an ES. So I'd say the target price to beat is $400. Call it $350, but of course the cheaper the better.

4930MX could be had for $749 on Amazon right now, so it definitely has to be cheaper than $700 to make it worthwhile.

I believe I can safely say that no moderator or even myself would be comfortable holding on to any money at this point. We don't even know if they will accept our prices let alone if he can even handle that many 880m's at 1 time. With that being said, if you have the money just set it aside for when or if this goes completely thru. I have to instill to everyone involved that we are still unsure if this will actually go thru or not, so hopes can be high but please bear with it and hopefully we do end up having this happen because this is easily a 10-15k order in just 880m's alone and patience is going to be one of things we will all have to consider at this point.

I saw that one coming so I didn't include it in the count. Thank you for understand with the 4940MX. I am hoping for 30-40% off as well due to the mass of the order and how many that will be sold. That being said its usually safe to assume that sellers of components get them extremely close to or even at wholesale which when they price them is roughly 45-55% under what they ask for. So lets say a 880m (Clevo or Dell) generally runs at $700-950 depending on the condition and brand, now when you calculate in the cost of the wholesale purchase and its usually batches that they buy, your looking at his cost to be roughly $400-600 per card depending on who he gets his stock from. I would say for 880m's a safe spot for "Dell" 880m's would be around $550-650 per card due to the fact we are ordering so many. Now for 780m's I honestly expect we can see 780's for $400-450 a piece for true Dell branded 780's. 3940XM's I think we could be safe to ask $275-350 a piece due since we are ordering so many items. The 3920xm may see $250-300. As for 4930mx's, we may not get so lucky to get a good price on those but I would safely say we could toss $600 a piece at them and get away with it due to the mass order of Gpu's. But this is only a rough draft we might be able to nickel and dime this to where we can agree to him making 10-20% over wholesale on all the components.

I'll add you in since I just announced today that we were closing up shop on adding people but I after 4pm CST tomorrow I will not be adding anymore people to the list. This order is already looking at close to 20k.
